Greencastle churches plan loyalty visitation campaign

Four Greeneast churches join a Greencastle loyalty visitation evangelistic campaign starting next Sunday under the auspices of the Greencastle Ministerial Association. Rev Guy H Black of Northwood will lead services assisted by local pastors. The effort aims to reach over 2,000 members with services at four churches: First Christian, Baptist, Presbyterian, and First Methodist.

Will Irwin Receives First Putnam County License Plates

Greencastle painter Will Irwin became the first Putnam County resident to secure a 1991 automobile license. He applied at the county distributing agency as it opened, receiving the first plate set No 91 601 amid a day of heavy demand for new plates.

Wheel Drops From Car At City Corner Crash

An old car owned and driven by Russell Due of South Greencastle skidded around a corner at Walnut and Indiana streets Thursday night. The left rear wheel dropped from the vehicle, but all occupants escaped injury and left the scene after the wreck.

Heed Government Call to Organize Indiana Farm Bureau Drive

Indiana Farm Bureau reports show many farmers joining for the first time under M C Townsend state director. Campaign began in November in the northern state. five of ten districts finished drives. A four day period covers all counties in each district with membership lists rising 80 to 140 percent over 1930 rosters and in some cases 200 percent.

Alleged Escape Spends Christmas in Jail Here

William Tillenghast a 20 year old from Indianapolis spent Christmas in Putnam county jail awaiting arraignment before Judge James I Hughes on a charge of escaping from the Indiana State Farm at Putnamville. He was brought to the jail by state farm employee Gilbert Snider after an agent delivered him the prior day.

British guns turn on Burmese rebels in Tharawaddy district

In Rangoon December 26 British machine gun troops rushed to Tharawaddy after natives rose in revolt. Forest engineer H V W telde Clark was murdered in Weywa bungalow during a patrol. Police and soldiers clashed with rebels, several killed and many wounded as authorities call the uprising serious. Rebels are said to be hiding in a wild area.

Truck collision injures driver at College and Poplar

Inman Sandy a truck driver for Home Steam Laundry sustained a painful injury to his right leg when his truck collided with an automobile driven by Robert Terry near Belle Union at the corner of College avenue and Poplar street late Wednesday afternoon. Both vehicles were badly damaged. The car is believed to be owned by Mrs. Eldon Goodpasture of Muneie.

Priests Capture Bandit After Parish Robbery in Chicago

In Chicago on December 26 two priests captured and disarmed a youth attempting to break into a locker room at St Boniface church after a $2000 Christmas collection was stolen from St Adalbert's parish house. The detainee, John Bresto, 19, of Portage, was seized by Reverend Christian A. Rempe and Reverend Joseph Gehvie. The robbers bound four priests but did not injure the victims. Reverend J. Givonkowski freed the pastors and notified police. other victims were Ladislaus Kukulski and Reverend Joseph Diedta. Reverend Frank Kimanski aided as chaplain.

Former Fillmore Man Dies in Los Angeles

Honor Clark, 57, died at his Los Angeles home from apoplexy. A former Putnam county resident, he moved to California about fourteen years ago. He leaves widow Stella Clark, brother Harvey Clark, half brothers Jim Clark of Missouri, John Clark of Fillmore, and Sam Pursell of Greamcastle. Funeral at 1 o'clock Sunday morning at the Fillmore Christian church. Burial in Fillmore cemetery.

Abe Martin creator Hubbard dies after heart attack

Indianapolis writer Kin Hubbard creator of Abe Martin died early Friday at 62 from a heart attack. He had warned physicians and was with family en route to Florida when death occurred at his North Meridian Street home. Hubbard’s Abe Martin graced The Indianapolis News and 300 papers for 26 years earning wide fame among readers and editors.

Indianapolis blacksmith Ernest Fink reported in serious condition

Relatives in Russellville reported Monday that Ernest Fink of Indianapolis was operated on at Methodist hospital and is in serious condition. Fink had long worked as a partner with his father in the local blacksmith shop.
