Christmas Wishes and Community Band Plans

A Christmas humor piece asks for simple wishes while a Kiwanis Rotary event gears up for a charity basketball game on December 29 at DePauw Gym. A Danville farm near Clay ton road will become a playground resort with a lake, boats, and water sports as Denny Bush plans the project.

Sunrise devotional service at Methodist Church

A sunrise devotional service will be held at the Methodist Church starting at 6:23 0 o'clock Christmas morning under the auspices of the Epworth League with Charles A. Brown and Rev A E Monger in charge. This evening Epworth League members will sing Christmas carols at the homes of various shut ins around town.

Local Clubs Donate Clothing for Needy Children

Tri Kappa and the Council of Clubs funded clothing for 115 school children. Delta Theta Tan provided food baskets to be delivered with help from the fire department. Gifts included 29 underwear sets, coats, shoes, sweaters, dresses, and more totaling $95 in donations.

Charity Show at Voncastle Fills Food Baskets for Needy

Voncastle Theatre held a charity show this morning at 10 o clock to collect staple foodstuffs for Greencastle and vicinity. A large crowd attended as food donations were given at admission and turned to distribution committees serving the poor. The program featured The Wrecker, Flower Garden Revue, and a Mickey Mouse Cartoon, with Little Accident shown during regular times.

Fred Radford 50 prominent local farmer died at his home after shooting himself Monday afternoon, despondent over ill health. His wife and daughter Kathleen were present. another daughter Ruth learned of the death en route home. Funeral held at North Salem Christian church with Rev. Mrs Pau lina Ann Barker widow of Morgan Barker died suddenly at her nephew Henry Allens home three miles east of Roachdale Monday morning Cause Conrilivations of old age led to her death She had been in declining health for about two years She was born September 4 1851 in Virginia and moved to Roachdale as a child She is survived by one sister Mrs Tilburn Aller Funeral services were held at the Allen home with Rev L Airhart of Crawfordsville presiding Burial followed in Roughdale cemetery

Greencastle Considers Annexation of Property

Greencastle city council discussed annexing three plots south and west of current limits valued around £52,000. No action was taken though an annexation ordinance was likely at a future meeting. County surveyor Orville O Neal explained the survey findings. Plans for larger territorial expansion had been made months earlier.

Mrs Hazelett Dies After Long Illness at 72

Meerena Helen Hazelett 72 wife of Samnweld Hazelett died Tuesday evening at Putnam County Hospital after months of heart disease. She lived near Green Castle since 192? and left five children Richard Marion Earl Samuel Lawrence and Clarence. Funeral Friday at 2 pm from east Washington home with Rev W K Gill. burial in Forest Hill cemetery. Active in church and club work.

Daughter Takes Home From Aged Parents Suit Filed

Putnam Circuit Court action alleges Mr and Mrs John Norwood aged over 50 were deceived by daughter and son in law Me and Mrs Elmer Hurst who obtained their home and $100 in personal property for promises to care for them. The complainants say the Hursts mortgaged the property and used proceeds for personal use while neglecting the Norwoods. The Norwoods seek to set aside the deed and contract.

Indianapolis Legislator Supports Move to Amend Dry Law

Indianapolis Democratic state representative John F. White, backed by the Indiana Anti Saloon League, announced support for amending the Wright Sbanes dry law to align with the Volstead act. The league opposes allowing physicians to prescribe whisky, while the state act bars possession or sale.

Ashes spread to curb slick downtown streets

Street commissioner scattered ashes on downtown street corners early this morning to relieve slipperiness from yesterday's snowfall. Late yesterday afternoon intersections grew very slippery and dangerous as cold conditions persisted.

Warren McCray former governor of Indiana was granted a full pardon restoring civil rights and restoring his liberty from a heavy fine. The pardon was issued by the President on the eve of Christmas and lifts all penalties from his conviction.

Injured Man Returns Home After Streetcar Crash

Graydon Graham son of Mr and Mrs Lawrence Graham was brought to his parents home after injuries from a streetcar crash near Plainfield. He had burns and cuts but is not believed to be seriously hurt. Several others aboard the car suffered various injuries and were treated at the Indiana Christian Hospital.

Death Claims Ross Huffman in Bridgeport Home

Ross Huffman, 48, of Bridgeport and former Putnam County resident, died at his home early today after a brief illness. The body was taken to his father Ivan Hanan's home in Brazil. Surviving are his widow Beulah Hoffman, a sister Mrs. Vollie Roach of Reelsville, and a brother Clain Hoffman of Reelsville. Funeral services are set for Saturday at 2 p.m. at Big Walnut Baptist Church with Rev. Lawrence Athey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

City Council Passes Law At Regular Meet

The Greencastle city council enacted an ordinance to govern disposal of table waste, giving the mayor power to hire an appointee to collect city garbage for a fee as revenue. The measure, passed unanimously, imposes fines for violators and takes effect after publication. A hearing on telephone company consolidation in Indianapolis is to be attended by city officials. A written objection to closing Hanna street west of Madison Street was filed by local property owners who rely on the street as access to their properties. The university seeks abandonment to combine athletic fields and create a larger two-campus complex.
