Two cases venued from Clay circuit court at Brazil were filed in the Putnam circuit court this afternoon. The Clay Pool Lacey Music Co. sues Harold Stearley for 1185 with 750 paid, seeking 428 plus 150 attorneys fees on a note. Anderson Motor Sales Co. sues Chester and Isaiah Duncan for 150 plus interest and fees on a note.
Luther F. Symons Indiana bank commissioner prepared a bill to make the state banking department the receiver for failing banks and trust companies. It will be presented to the 1931 Legislature to prevent receivership evils and curb exorbitant fees charged to receivers.
The second national convention of Phi Eta Sigma opens at DePauw University with 21 delegates from colleges nationwide. National officers, deans, and sponsors attend as sessions begin. a chapel talk is given at the University of Missouri and the event runs through Saturday noon.
Kasson McFerran, about 45, a former Roachdale resident, died in Kansas Tuesday from injuries from a Saturday automobile crash. His son Frank was seriously hurt, and he is survived by brother Jasper McFerran of Roachdale, sisters Mrs Lowa Morelan and Mrs Lizzie Dewson of Jackson township, and his Indianapolis widow.
Mrs Martha M Vaughn 67 wife of Benjamin Vaughn prominent Putnam county farmer was found dead in bed by her husband when he arose this morning at the Mt Meridian residence. Death was due to heart disease with funeral at Providence church Sunday at 10:30 in charge of Rev Reuben Masten and Rev Gilbert McCammack. Survived by two daughters Mrs S B Staley and Mrs Allan McCammack and son Ray Vaughn.
Indiana officials announce 1901 automobile license plates will not go on sale December 14 as provided by law. License department chief James Carpenter cites wholesale sweep of old license branches and new Democratic county organization branch chiefs as the cause of the delay.
W Harry Risher 42 city engineer and water works superintendent died after an operation for appendicitis. He graduated from Purdue University and was formerly a faculty member there. He is survived by a widow and a son.
The Herald reports a Christmas fund begun to aid the needy with nearly 100 dollars subscribed by December 7 1910. Volunteers Mrs Frank Dogner Mrs Charles V Newman James B Nelson and Jackson Boyd were named to distribute gifts.
The State of Todinni charges Roscow Bennett of Brazil with failure to support a family of ten. The case, before a Putnam circuit court jury, stems from a 1929 court order requiring regular payments for the ten children. Bennett, remarried and living in Clay County, testified he continued payments until unable to do so, arguing many children are grown. The jury retired about 11:30 this morning and remained out at press time.
Mrs. John R. Miller of Roachdale, 73, died at home Friday morning from complications of age and illness. Survived by husband and one daughter Leathe Rogers. two sons Carl and Frank preceded her. Grandmother of Katherine Miller deputy auditor of Putnam County. Funeral Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Roachdale Christian church with Rev. Henry Ashley officiating. burial in North Salem cemetery.
Cloverdale December 5 Mr Virgo Smiley of Hurst Collins Post 281 American Legion has been appointed Employment Officer. Duties include assisting the unemployed, finding work, and aiding local district residents. Rain Friday and Saturday is forecast with generally fair conditions and moderate temperatures.
Capt EL Bo McMahon of DePauw University and William Bishop returned from Chicago where they attended the seventh regional Boy Scout conference held at the Edee Water Beach Hotel. They led four Terre Haute delegates representing the Wabash Valley among delegates from Indiana Michigan Illinois and Wisconsin.
The Purple Robed Choir under Professor Kenneth R. Unileet will perform at the Presbyterian church Sunday evening. The program includes Mendelssohn and Stainer pieces and features a roster of student leaders and choir members. Rev. B H Bruner will preach the sermon.
Indiana recovered the Old Oaken Bucket trophy after ten days in kidnappers' possession. The famed Indiana Purdue football rivalry prize, tied to a 7-6 Indiana victory, was found on a loading platform in downtown Lafayette. An elderly man left it there and departed. Indiana offered a no questions asked return policy, hoping to reclaim the trophy by rightful ownership.
Harry Stamp of Roachdale wins the King Alberts Cup for Roachdale Hazel a two year old Belgian draft horse at the International Livestock Exposition in Chicago. Stamp is noted as a top horseman with multiple prizes including champion yearling stallion. Hoosier exhibitors, Sehenek and Grenard of Waynetown, take grand champion honors in swine.
Fifty prominent Hoosiers including DePauw leaders De G Bromley Oxfam and Dr W M Blanchard favored the World Court protocol in a National Economic League referendum. Of 50 Hoosiers surveyed 43 voted yes and seven no, part of 1985 leaders nationwide with 94 percent supporting the measure.
Federal agents ended a search in Clinton Indiana with five stills found, two in operation, and four hundred gallons of whisky ready for shipment. John Donahue led the raid and said efforts will continue to arrest owners.
