In Greencastle an informal service station announces free advice on love and business problems. The tale of a farm radio vs cow shows humorous local concerns while notices touch on sidewalks at the courthouse and holiday shopping. A warning about bootleg liquor during Christmas appears.
Police chief F. H. Hancock notes a letter from Ralph Howard at the penal farm Putnamoville reporting Chris Byers escaped from Monroe county where he was received September 24. Byers, 5 feet 1 inch tall 140 pounds, had been sentenced to 120 days and fined 165.80 dollars with costs for non-support. Penal farm authorities offer a ten dollar reward for his capture.
Dr. W. W. Carson head of De Pauw history and political science department was taken to Mayo Clinic Rochester Minnesota November 19 and has now returned to Greencastle He met all his classes Monday.
At a Monday session the county commissioners awarded printing contracts to T. R. Woodburn Co for classes one to three and The Herald for class four. The afternoon lasted with disputed claims and other business. Zella Mc Curry of Brazil had a $50 clothing damage claim rejected. A continued meeting December 15 will decide two Court House custodian appointments and the county attorney post.
The Achievement Day program at the Court House showcased Putnam County nutrition efforts directed by Purdue University extension agent Miss Aneta Beadle. Demonstrations featured three booths with salads, proper and improper place settings, and steps to health for children, with talks by Miss Beadle, County Agent R. H. Stevenson, and Mrs. Morton Fordice.
Native of Farmersburg Indiana Rev B T VanCleave aged 75 died Monday at his Beveridge Street home after years of ill health. A pioneering Indiana M E minister he lived in Greencastle since 1906 and served many southern Indiana churches and evangelistic work. He is survived by four daughters a sister five grandchildren and his wife had died in 1921. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 PM at the M F E Church with burial in Forest Hill cemetery.
Otis Miller, a south Greencastle resident, was knocked unconscious when a Ford touring car collided head on with a new Oldsmobile driven by Robert Goff of Russellville near Somerset Church on State Road 43. Miller recovered consciousness en route to Dr. Ayler’s office and later reached Rockville sanitarium. both vehicles were damaged. Miller, traveling with a friend, was returning from Rockville where he had gone for tuberculosis treatment. The Ford attempted to pass a truck at about 35 mph when the crash occurred. Goff is employed by the High Point Ot Co.
Mostly cloudy forecast with snow possible tonight except rain in the far south. Light snow expected in the extreme east by Wednesday morning as temperatures fall. colder air follows later.
Members of the Southern Indiana Research Club consisting of area school superintendents will meet in Greencastle on Wednesday hosted by Warren J Yount of Greencastle Schools. The program includes school visits, a luncheon, and a discussion on teaching history in fourth to sixth grades, with Putnam County high school principals attending a noon luncheon in Redsville before joining the Greencastle event.
James Trail aged 75 died at his home near Mt Pleasant at 7 30 Tuesday morning after several months with heart trouble. He was born near Fincastle and married Isabelle Coffman. Surviving relatives include a California sister and a Kansas half sister, plus a niece and nephew from Fincastle. Funeral Thursday at 11 at Mt Pleasant Church with burial in Mt Pleasant cemetery. Dr C Howard Taylor of Greencastle to conduct services.
In Greencastle Mr and Mrs J E B Ohair hosted a dinner Tuesday for three birthday celebrants Mrs O Hair Mrs Margaret J Farrow and Mrs H H Crow marking the eleventh annual gathering. Attending notables included T F Evans Dr A B Ayler and J L Randel who had attended a Scottish Rite meeting in Indianapolis the prior evening. Mrs H B Longden traveled to Greenwood while Mrs Frank Donner saw Maude Adams at Englishs last evening.

He touts tax cuts and debt repayment while urging strict economy to maintain gains amid a peaceful world and advancing sovereignty. He avoids mention of retirement or future administration.
The three year old child of Mr and Mrs Garboe Wayne Michigan suffered a severe head cut when their Pontiac side swiped a parked unlit truck on a hill early Tuesday. A passing motorist from Brazil took the family to Dr Hutcheson for aid as they traveled to Evansville.
County Agent R. H. Stevenson and Putnam County beef cattle men are invited to a meeting on Tom Garland’s beef cattle farm near Marshall in Parke County on December 12. The session starts at 1 PM with speakers F. G. King and P. T. Brown from Purdue University animal husbandry department. Local beef cattle men may find it of interest.
Butler College returns to the Indiana Little Three fold to meet DePauw and Wabash next season. Butler will inaugurate a mixed home and away schedule with DePauw and Wabash, playing every other game at Greencastle. The 1929 DePauw Butler game is set for November 2 in Indianapolis.
Twenty seven Cloverdale residents petition the Indiana Public Service Commission asking for replacement of a loud Monon Railroad bell at the Main Street crossing with a swinging electric sign. They also allege trains travel at dangerous speeds through Cloverdale and report concern for resident safety. An open Chamber of Commerce meeting discussed issues but took no firm action.
