The Putnam County boys club camp opened at the Indiana state fair with about 170 campers and leaders. Eligible fair participants with livestock exhibits or judging teams may enroll, and the camp runs through next Saturday. Brazil officials plan a five cent reduction in the city tax rate as part of the 1930 budget. The council proposes expenditures drop from 68000 to 65000 dollars with final approval due at the September 9 meeting.
John W. McAninch, 88, near Mt. Meridian died suddenly of heart disease at his daughter’s Mt. Meridian home. A Civil War veteran and pioneer resident, he is survived by wife Jane Allee McAninch and nine children. Funeral at Mill Creek church Monday at 2 PM, Rev. W. E. Gill presiding. burial in Mill Creek cemetery. Mrs. McAninch is sister of John Allee, Greencastle attorney.
Plans are set for a county gathering of Christian churches in Putnam County at Somerset Christian Church on Road 43 north of Greencastle. The program starts 9:50 with Bible school, followed by Dr. Jesse M. Bader of Indianapolis preaching at 10:45. In the afternoon the Lord’s Supper is observed and Dr. Bader preaches again. Green Castle members with extra seats or needing rides should meet at 9 am. two school trucks will shuttle attendees.
Amarillo Texas August 30 A D Payne the accused killer of his wife in an arson explosive murder died in Potter County jail by self inflicted dynamite blast Payne had confessed to creating a crude incendiary device that killed his wife and crippled her son He died instantly amid mangled remains after talking with his children and being alone in his cell He had earlier admitted placing a triple dynamite charge in his car to end his wife’s life and had sought various means before turning to explosives.
Several Greencastle merchants say they will close all day Monday Labor Day while others remain open or close at noon. The partial closures reflect a varied schedule among local shops.
The Edwin Rector Scholarship Foundation awarded eight more Rector Scholarships this week, raising total grants to 305 for freshmen. Recipients include Fred C. Timberman London C Ruley McAuley Robert Spencer Crowell Aaron Dunn Edgar Thomas Croark James Lucas Martin Lincoln Vaughn Parry and Harry Watts. Each winner received a scholarship certificate a letter from Dr Henry B Longdon and a copy of Should Students Study selected by Mr Rector.
The Greencastle Chamber of Commerce directors meeting planned for Monday evening was postponed to Tuesday evening due to Labor Day observance. The delay affects the regular weekly agenda and scheduling.

Charles Wright of near Fern arrived in Greencastle with severe cuts to the head and face. He told authorities Paul Barnett of near Fern attacked him after a quarrel over wire at the Wright homestead. He sought care from Dr. W M McGaughey.
1910 local item notes Mr and Mrs J P Hughes relocating from East Seminary Street to the S A Hays property on Bloomington Street. Louise Abrams hosted G A C club guests at Irma Grubb home. Paul Grimes held a party at his residence.
Leland Burford 28 of Indianapolis died when the Waco biplane he was piloting for the first time crashed near Turkey Run. Albert J. McKay, former Greencastle resident and Purdue student, will have services Sunday at the Masonic temple in Terre Haute. Burial in Terre Haute cemetery. Burford’s companions, family arrivals, and local tributes noted.
A maple tree on the Ott Webb farm east of town produced three logs of fine bird's eye grain. Mr Webb received a $400 offer for one log cut in Indiana polis for veneer. The three logs are valued at about $1,200 in total.
The four Greencastle churches join for a union service Sunday at 7 30 pm at First Christian church with Rev Albert E Monger of the Methodist Episcopal church delivering the Labor Sunday message. The sermon titled Social Religion Looks at Machines and Unemployment.

Purdue University announces Christy Flanagan a Notre Dame backfield star of 1925 1926 and 1927 signed as Purdue varsity football coach to begin in the fall. Flanagan joins Mal Elward and Karl Martineau as assistants to Noble Kiser the new head coach of the Boiler Makers conference champions.
A one day old infant was found in a garbage bucket in Indianapolis and died at City Hospital a few hours later. Police suspect abandonment to die from exposure. Mrs Anna Carries heard the cries while on the way to church and alerted authorities. Mr and Mrs L W Hudlin returned from a Champaign Illinois vacation.
Police in Kokomo and South Bend chase suspects in the slaying of 8 year old Marberine Appels as a second assault on Mrs. Joseph Wisniewski raises townwide fear. A posse and rewards are organized as detectives pursue two men matching suspects’ description.
Livestock market from Indianapolis shows hogs about 5 to 10 cents lower for 160 to 225 pound trades with top around 1120 while heavier weights and light weights move variably. Cattle and calves steady to weak with better grades up a bit weekly, cows and heifers uneven, vealers quiet. Sheep steady with limited supply and fat lambs around 1075 early, later sales around 950.
