Brazil officials plan a five cent reduction in the city tax rate as part of the 1930 budget. The council proposes expenditures drop from 68000 to 65000 dollars with final approval due at the September 9 meeting.

Death claim near Mt. Meridian veteran John McAninch

John W. McAninch, 88, near Mt. Meridian died suddenly of heart disease at his daughter’s Mt. Meridian home. A Civil War veteran and pioneer resident, he is survived by wife Jane Allee McAninch and nine children. Funeral at Mill Creek church Monday at 2 PM, Rev. W. E. Gill presiding. burial in Mill Creek cemetery. Mrs. McAninch is sister of John Allee, Greencastle attorney.

County Christian Churches Plan Joint Meeting at Somerset

Plans are set for a county gathering of Christian churches in Putnam County at Somerset Christian Church on Road 43 north of Greencastle. The program starts 9:50 with Bible school, followed by Dr. Jesse M. Bader of Indianapolis preaching at 10:45. In the afternoon the Lord’s Supper is observed and Dr. Bader preaches again. Green Castle members with extra seats or needing rides should meet at 9 am. two school trucks will shuttle attendees.

Murder Case Ends Dramatically as Prison Suicide Occurs

Amarillo Texas August 30 A D Payne the accused killer of his wife in an arson explosive murder died in Potter County jail by self inflicted dynamite blast Payne had confessed to creating a crude incendiary device that killed his wife and crippled her son He died instantly amid mangled remains after talking with his children and being alone in his cell He had earlier admitted placing a triple dynamite charge in his car to end his wife’s life and had sought various means before turning to explosives.

Rector Scholarships Pass 300 Mark For Freshmen

The Edwin Rector Scholarship Foundation awarded eight more Rector Scholarships this week, raising total grants to 305 for freshmen. Recipients include Fred C. Funeral for crash victim to be Sunday

Leland Burford 28 of Indianapolis died when the Waco biplane he was piloting for the first time crashed near Turkey Run. Albert J. McKay, former Greencastle resident and Purdue student, will have services Sunday at the Masonic temple in Terre Haute. Burial in Terre Haute cemetery. Burford’s companions, family arrivals, and local tributes noted.

Maple tree logs yield high value veneer offer

A maple tree on the Ott Webb farm east of town produced three logs of fine bird's eye grain. Mr Webb received a $400 offer for one log cut in Indiana polis for veneer. The three logs are valued at about $1,200 in total.

Abandoned Baby Found In Ash Can In Indianapolis

A one day old infant was found in a garbage bucket in Indianapolis and died at City Hospital a few hours later. Police suspect abandonment to die from exposure. Mrs Anna Carries heard the cries while on the way to church and alerted authorities. Mr and Mrs L W Hudlin returned from a Champaign Illinois vacation.

Indiana market report on hogs cattle and sheep sales

Livestock market from Indianapolis shows hogs about 5 to 10 cents lower for 160 to 225 pound trades with top around 1120 while heavier weights and light weights move variably. Cattle and calves steady to weak with better grades up a bit weekly, cows and heifers uneven, vealers quiet. Sheep steady with limited supply and fat lambs around 1075 early, later sales around 950.
