The American Legion held its best meeting of the year in Bainbridge on August 11. A large turnout led to plans for an American Legion stand at the Junior Fair with Justin Godwin as chairman. Members discussed post incorporation, selling overseas style caps, and ordering more pins. Many veterans joined or sought pensions, and plans were made for the state convention at Ft Wayne August 25 26 27 with railroad discounts. After the meeting a watermelon feed impressed attendees. next meeting is in Greencastle August 25. All World War I veterans are urged to file for pension benefits with Legion assistance.

Fire destroys 20 acres of pasture near Greencastle
An undetermined origin grass and pasture fire burned about 20 acres on the Moore farm four miles southeast of Greencastle on Wednesday afternoon. Neighbors, arriving around 2 pm, plowed furrows to contain the blaze and prevent damage to straw stacks. Fire was under control by 4:45 pm. heavy rains last night extinguished all remaining danger.

Three Bandits Sentenced to Pendleton Reform School
Ermyle Young of East Glenn Floyd Frye and Hubert Moyer of Terre Haute pleaded guilty to auto banditry in Clay County court after an alleged robbery at the Rawley filling station near the Rawley tourist Camp. They were captured by a posse and sentenced to ten years at the Indiana Reformatory in Pendleton. Roy Long was killed during the pursuit when the gang attempted to flee with a slot machine.

Burned farmer injured saving horses at John Robe barn
