Greencastle council restricts firemen country runs
Greencastle City Council passed a resolution barring fire fighting outside the city limits. They argued country runs strain water supply and deprive city protection. The bell and transformer were approved and the water plug near Green and Iowa Streets was ordered back in service.

Stolen Ford Touring Car Found Wrecked East of Town
A Ford touring car owned by R. L. Sanford of Cole Apartments, reported stolen Tuesday night from in front of Cole apartments, was found this morning wrecked just east of town near the Ed Black farm round barn. Sanford, a representative of Quaker Oats Co., identified the vehicle.

Brick Chapel Begins Revival Meetings
The Brick Chapel M. E. church opens evangelistic services tonight at 7 30 with Pastor Charles R Query and assistants. Dr. A T Briggs Greencastle district superintendent will preach the first sermon. Special music planned each evening and Thursday focuses on sacred music. Reverend Bennett arrives from Illinois next week to lead the music.

Death Claims Former Putnam Man Tuesday
James H. Newman 73 of Indianapolis died Tuesday in a sanitarium at 2112 North Delaware after an illness of two years. He moved to Indianapolis in the early 1880s as a salesman for Murphy-Hibben Company, later Hibben Hollweg & Co, retiring two years ago. Born near Fillmore, he lived in Putnam county before joining a general store venture, then Bloomington, and finally Indianapolis in wholesale dry goods.

Five Muncie gang members escape Greenville jail in alleged North Putnam robberies
Five suspected gangsters linked to a July 17 heist spree in North Putnam County escaped from Greenville Ohio jail using saws. Two more suspects held in Danville face related charges. Detectives Snider and Bryan say confessions were taken, loot recovered in Muncie, and authorities notified surrounding sheriffs.

A Ford with Ohio plates, suspected stolen, was found in a ditch near Reelxville by Edgar Job. Sheriff Edward Fiteborge was notified and Deputy Alva Bryan arranged for the Tribby Garage wrecker to tow the vehicle into town.

Twenty years ago in Greencastle on August 11 1910 the Wood Reunion elected Charles Wood president at the annual gathering held at the home of William Dills. Harve Ayers a Roachdale boy aged 16 lost his left arm after being struck by a train on the tracks then walked home. Kimber Gardner attended the Quincy picnic today. Dr and Mrs A B Ayler returned from Chicago after attending the Knight Templar Conclave.

Receiver Appointed For Greencastle Canning Company
Judge James P. Hughes placed Fred Masten of Green Castle as receiver for the Greencastle Canning Company after the First National Bank filed to protect its mortgage interests. Masten bonds $10,000 and is to assume immediate control to pay debts. bank notes it holds multiple mortgages and the firm owes farmers and workers. Demonstrations by unpaid laborers occurred the prior week, with several threats to burn the plant.

Hundreds See Detachment of Artillery in Greencastle
Citizens of Greencastle and surrounding areas view the detachment of the 61st coast artillery camped south of the Pennsylvania station. Cloverdale Man Held After Raid Seizes Homebrew Alcohol
Putnam County deputies and prosecutor arrest Strouter Martin 41 in Cloverdale on possession of intoxicating liquor with about one gallon seized plus 12 bottles of homebrew. He pleads guilty in Greencastle and is fined 100 dollars and costs, 108, and sentenced to Putnamville for thirty days.

Another Squirrel Hunter Shot in Clay County
Brazil Indiana August 12 INS Adware Barr a local plasterer was shot in the face during a squirrel hunt near Parke County by Riley Blue who mistook him for a squirrel. Barr suffered face and chest injuries with a bullet entering his right eye possibly losing sight. Seelyville resident John Czonah 18 was also shot in the opening day losing sight of his left eye.
