Putnam County 4-H Livestock Winners Named

Purdue university official Professor C. F. Gobble announced the top four in the Putnam county junior fair livestock judging contest. Charles Shaner won first, Stanley O'Hair second, Robert Ragen third, and Eugene Akers fourth. All expenses are paid for the 4-H club camp at the Indiana State Fair this fall, with these four representing Putnam county 4-H clubs in livestock judging contests. Fifteen boys entered the competition, judging horses, sheep, dairy cattle, beef cattle, and hogs.

Billy Sunday to Conduct Chautauqua in Brazil

Evangelist Billy Sunday will start a chautauqua at Forest Park auditorium in Brazil on August 17. The event features the religious drama The Awakening of Peter and runs eight days with free admission. the 26,000 dollar steel structure seats locals freely despite 10,000 paid by the city and 16,000 donated.

Displays by Club Girls Feature Fair at County 4-H Show

The 4 H club girls from ages 10 to 20 from city and rural districts showcase cooking canning baking and sewing displays in the county fair held in the courthouse assembly room. Exhibits include recipes costs centerpieces summer salads pepper and pimento cheese four leaf clover dish cakes cookies breads garb and home articles with canned fruits and vegetables. Mrs Charles Allen returned home Thursday after medical treatment.

County agents and farmers from about a dozen counties debated how the Southern Indiana drought may affect Hoosier agriculture and how individuals can adjust winter wheat sowing this fall. Eight year old Catherine Pace killed crossing road

Catherine Ellen Pace eight died when struck by a car near North Salem while crossing to a neighbor's home to start a picnic. Marion Roberts twenty five of Jamestown drove east and struck her as she started back, killing her instantly.

Escaped Arrest by Back Door in Roachdale Incident

Paul Scott about 25 of Roachdale fled from three officers including Deputy Alva Bryan Pinkerton Harry Snider and Town Marshal Thomas Ashby when they arrived at his residence around 8 oclock. A warrant had been issued by Grant County prosecutor and Snider and Bryan pursued him to Roachdale with help from the town marshal.

Child Suffering Of Fractured Skull

Thomas Jean Cash 18 months old, son of Clyde and wife, east of here, yesterday suffered a crushed skull when a truck backed over him at home. He is critical but slightly improved, able to open eyes and take nourishment after an X ray. The accident occurred as the father backed the truck. the child toddled into the path. An older brother was hurt similarly a year ago.

The Terre Haute Quick Welders travel to Limedale Park to face the Greencastle Merchants Boosters on Sunday afternoon. Greencastle manager W F Abel has revamped the lineup in anticipation of a stronger showing after a hard fought loss to West Terre Haute last Sunday. The score was Terre Haute 6 to 1.

Frank Coss manager of the Green castle Cabinet factory announced the company would be moved to Martinsville. B Lynch Arthur Hamrick and Frank Allen who attended the Knight Templar Conclave in Chicago were robbed when their room was left unlocked.

Fire damages home of Mrs Frank Wells on West Liberty

Fire at the home of Mrs Frank Wells on West Liberty street destroyed clothing and furniture valued at 50 dollars. The blaze started from an electric iron left on in a bedroom about 11 30 Thursday night and was extinguished by the Greencastle Fire department after discovery.

4-H Livestock Show Yields Prize Winners in Putnam County

4-H club members display prize livestock including dairy calves, beef calves, pigs, and lambs judged by Professor C F Gobble of Purdue. Sweepstakes win offers a free trip to the Purdue Roundup and first-place winners receive trips to the Indiana State Fair camp. Winners listed across beef, dairy, pig, lamb divisions with several named youths receiving top placings. The event ran Tuesday afternoon, with a public display on the North side of the Public Square through Saturday night.

Cloverdale Residents to Tour Northwest

Mr and Mrs Henry Coffran of Cloverdale join the Prairie Farmer tour of the North Western United States and Canada. The two week supervised trip leaves Chicago on Saturday and visits Glacier National Park Alberta Canada and Yosemite. Professor J B Thomas and Superintendent Oscar Thomas will address the group during the trip.

Young Poultry Raiser Shows Chickens At Fair

Miss Teressa Detrick of Greencastle displays three coops of chickens in Campbell Brothers Checker Board store during the fair. She raises 1299 chickens this summer and has six pullets under six months old producing about twenty eggs daily.

R-100 Passes Mid Atlantic Mark in Flight Toward Cardington

London August 1 The R-100 airship neared Cardington after crossing the Atlantic in a fast pace. Squadron Leader RS Booth reported hopeful progress toward breaking the Europe-America record with an ETA around 1 a.m. Cardington time. The airship travelled at about 1700 feet, with tail winds aiding its rapid advance across the ocean.
