University fraternity initiates a "get-together" movement with a smoker event that brings merchants and college men together. The event is described as greatly enjoyed by guests, highlighting the cooperation between local businessmen and student members of Phi Kappa Psi.
About twenty five Green Cast le business men attended a cut to gether smoker at the Phi Kappa Psi house on East Anderson street Thursday night. The event aimed to foster lasting ties between college men and local business leaders with ample sandwiches coffee and doughnuts. Music and singing accompanied by piano and drum added to the lively evening highlighting goodwill and fellowship.
In Harouniyi northeast of Adana Turkish forces burned an American orphanage and forced the evacuation of about two thousand Armenian orphans to Adana under William Gilbert Jr. They are expected to be sent to Cyprus as unrest spreads. Rail service between Adana and Aleppo has been restored. Turkish nationals have seized the southern Gulf of Ismil area near Constantinople with limited signs of broader trouble in Anatolia.
Cleveland April 8 Jason Rogers publisher of the New York Grove tells the Cleveland Advertising Club that American newspapers may have no print paper in ten years without conserving ad space. He warns output is falling and pulp mills in the United States and Canada may not meet demand even if spruce timber lasts.
An Easter Musical program by the church choir will headline next Sundays service. The auditorium will feature ferns flowers and singing by four canaries. Eighteen choir members in white will perform with a white vestment display. Rev A M Hootman has returned from Miami Fla where he was on a brief business trip and filled in at Fillmore during the pastor's absence.
Indiana will not allow women to vote in the May 4 primary after a decision by the State Board of Election Commissioners following a conference with Governor James P. Goodrich. The board cited lack of proper legislation to grant voting rights for primary office candidates.
Brazil Ind April 8 Fire devastated Perth a mining town five miles north of Brazil after a tornado in 1913. The blaze began in the general store of George Freischman and spread to eleven other buildings including the Delacea store two business rooms a barn and a residence of Mrs John Witty.
Charles E. Hughes has been retained by the United Mine Workers of America as chief counsel to defend forty three union officials indicted in Indianapolis on charges of conspiring to raise coal prices. John L. Lewis announced the appointment. Indictments returnable May 4 in Indianapolis with pleas of not guilty expected.
Administrators Joseph Perli and Stella Peck of Charles T. Leck's estate sue Terre Haute Indianapolis & Eastern Traction Co. for 10000 damages claiming the interurban car struck the wagon at Bloomington and Seminary, traveling 40 mph with no warning. Peck dragged 170 feet before stopping. Attorneys Lyon & Lyon and Hays & Murphy represent the estate.

Mrs Drew Edmonson, a colored woman, defies officers attempting to execute a court order. She is placed in jail as household goods pile along the road, with tempers cooling after the confrontation.
Deputy Sheriff B B Stringer and Marshall Henry O HAir forced entry to evict Mrs Drew Edmonson from property owned by Cyrus O H Air after she refused entry and challenged the order to vacate by April 9. The door was broken, she was handcuffed and jailed, goods piled outside. Judge Hughes released her on promise to behave and arrange care for her children. She is divorced from her husband.
The public service commission of Indiana postpones the hearing on the petition by George Akers and others to abolish the Vandalia railroad grade crossing at Reelsville. The new hearing date will be announced later after a railroad requested continuation.

A Green Castle soda fountain proprietor announced that ice cream sodas and other fountain drinks will cost 15 cents, including a one cent war tax. The new price takes effect next week.
DePauw's 1920 baseball team played a practice game against the tiger ineligibles on McKean field this afternoon. The official 1920 schedule opens next Tuesday after noon when State Normal appears here. The lineup lists Julien, Guild, Fhwyn, Tuhey, Dernell, Norris, Cant, Guild, Cannon and Isenbarger. President George R. Grose was elected as a delegate to the Methodist Church General Conference in Des Moines in May. The DePauw Glee Club returns from northern Indiana with performances in Hartford City and Anderson, leading to a home concert in McHarry Hall on April 16. The Women's Athletic Association plans a musical matinee in Bowman gymnasium Saturday night. Newly installed student body officials include Walie Welch as president and Catherine Rotherhwere as vice president, with Helen Serpohare and Ted Prouil as treasurer. Thomas Henry and Vivien Henry are staying with parents due to measles, as is Paul McAnally residing on Manosens Street.
A Tuesday night gathering at the Pres Willerian Church hosted the fourth supper for women with a delightful banquet. One hundred forty five attended the meeting and enjoyed the program and fellowship.
