Commemoration plan announced for a statue on the Marne battlefield costing about 259000 dollars with Putnam County contributing 52 dollars toward the project. Frederick McMonnies named designer as local officials report schoolchildren contributions and remaining funds. County Superintendent Frank Wallace heads the effort with related civic notices and meetings noted.
After seven years a lighthouse on the Setteet Street roof was installed to memorialize the great ship disaster off Newfoundland. A public subscription funded the 212 foot tall beacon with three electric lamps and a 4 foot time ball, guiding vessels to the East River and marking the disaster anniversary.

Pattie Maddux, a 62 year old blind veteran, repairs worn mail bags at the U S Postal Service. She earns 3.60 a day as part of a 285 person team manufacturing and repairing mail bags and locks for the postal service nationwide. The shop, in a 200000 fireproof building, produced thousands of items, salvaged thousands of pouches, and used millions of pounds of twine in the fiscal year.
