The Greencastle Post No 58 held a Friday meeting in the mayor's office with plans for a concert by a Bohemian violinist and a souvenir week to display local trophies. Julius Bryan urged 100 percent post cooperation as the public backs the veterans, while a county membership drive and equipment loans were announced.
Bryant Venable of Whitaker Paper Co predicts newsprint will hit 15 cents per pound by June 15 and will not return to prewar pricing. He cites rising costs since 1914 and says printing ink and paper must bear the burden until conditions normalize.
News dispatches from Chicago Indianapolis and New York report widespread unauthorized rail strikes. About 35000 workers idle, switchmen and enginemen in Chicago and Indianapolis walkout while New York trains face cancelled or delayed service as firemen and crews are unavailable.
The Shover's Stock Pemeny Company now operates from a new North Jackson street location formerly the Randel Wlacksmith shop. New mixing machinery enables output of 9 to 15 tons of stock food daily. Mrs Charles Goodman and Mrs Boatwright each head families of nine as Mrs Barr awards a Bible and a book of sermons. A sermon on What Have You in Your House focuses on making the home a pleasant place for children and warns against excess and neglect. Seventeen more responded to the invitation, and a men only lecture is planned for tomorrow. About five hundred heard parts of today’s service in the courthouse rotunda.
The weekend program at the Baptist church includes a long service and sermons by Mrs. Barr on The Serpent s Sting and Hardened, lectures to men by Walter A. Hugman, women and girls events, and a college gathering. A crowd packed the tabernacle with ten families present, two with nine members, five with seven, and Mrs. Goodman 82 receiving a Bible prize for the largest family.
Cleveland reports forecast that American newspapers may lose print paper within ten years unless advertising space is consolidated. The fourteenth annual YM A officers training conference opened at DePauw with Elwood Perisho of South Dakota College delivering The Place and the Association on the Campus. Elmer Lynn Williams spoke on Christian Citizenship. Frederick Taylor of Indianapolis spoke on Religious Education and Evangelism. The conference closes Sunday after A J Elliott addresses Personal Qualifications of Association Men. Theta Sigma Phi initiated six pledges and Tusitana initiated six pledges at Torr's.
The Christian Church hosts a special Easter program featuring the Resurrection Morn service with soloists and choir. Elmer Sherfey directs the music including The Break of Day and In the Garden, with responsive readings, hymns, and postlude.
Parke county Democrats schedule a Jefferson day dinner in Rockville on Friday April 16. Ex Gov Ralston will give the main address to energize local democratic efforts with several candidates for governor congress and state legislature in attendance to speak briefly.
Marshall Abrams won first place in the discus contest at Brazil Friday night. His victory makes him eligible to compete in the state contest among all district champions.
In Brazil High School auditorium Friday night the district contests awarded first to Greencastle students Marshal Abrams Lucille Gillespie and Ruth Wilson in discussion and music. Abrams will represent the district at the state meet in Bloomington April 22 while others do not advance.

Gourh in Holland Michigan as interstate oratorical judge. Hannah Elizabeth Gourd hosts a guest with Loman Ate piddensay Che hams of her parents on South College avenue. Mr and Mrs Claire Bittles of Indianapolis spend weekend with Mrs Raser Bittles on East Washington treet. Lawrence Sloane of New York visits Mrs Tuey Black. will return home after short visit.
Ezra Brown of near Cloverdale reported a stolen Ford automobile incident. An overcoat, a woman's cloak, and a scarf left in the car were later found in a field near Roachdale. Brown offered a $25 reward for arrest and $26 for return of the property.
