Moab Edges Green White In Narrow Buckeye Rivalry Win

Moab defeated Green River 59 to 49 on the focal court after a 22 point second quarter surge. Donahue and Powell led Moab with 20 points each as Green River’s Garcia Weber and King contributed 19 14 and 14. Green River won the B game 93 30.

Meeting Memos For Green River Clubs And Groups

Notice invites Green River area clubs and organizations to submit meeting dates and news for weekly publication. City Council meets first Wednesday monthly. Planning Board meets second and fourth Thursdays. Civil Air Patrol gathers Wednesdays at 8 pm in Midland Hotel basement. Service Club meets first and third Mondays at 7:30 pm. American Legion meets second Thursday at 7:30 pm in the Municipal building.

Utah Foundation reports 1955 property valuation by sector

The Utah Foundation releases a study showing commercial and industrial property in Utah totaling over 681 million, 61 percent of assessed valuation, with residential at 243 million and agricultural at 10 million. Vehicles total 66 million, and most remaining value sits in Salt Lake County. Furnishings in owner homes are largely exempt. This is the first year major economic groups could be separated on rolls.

Fire Destroyed Vetere Home in February Blaze

A Saturday February 11 fire in Green River destroyed the Vetere home after John Vetere Jr lit a gas lantern and stove fire. Neighbors aided with a water truck but limited cistern capacity and a small fire department water supply prevented saving more than two rooms and the porch. The family, insured only lightly, urged residents to keep cisterns full in winter to aid future rescues.

Reverend Hanks Dies After Many Years of Service

News of the death of Reverend Ebenezer Hanks arrives from Glendale California where he passed away on Sunday February 12 in information indicates he was born 1862 in Bellview Iron County He served as a minister at the Presbyterian Church here and had pastorates in Richfield Perron Utah later residing in Malad and Rigby He leaves two sons Day Hanks and Wendell four grandchildren and a brother Charles Hanks of Green River He will be buried in Malad Idaho.

Staff effort and local merchants advertising have accelerated progress, with nearly 100 juniors and seniors already ordering copies. subscriptions close February 22.

Mrs Dorothy L Blake of White Canyon announces the engagement of her daughter Miss Nancy Blake to Mr R L Marsing son of Mr and Mrs Lon Marsing of White Canyon Miss Blake attended Green River and Monticello high schools and worked at Arbon Cafe in 1955 Mr R L Marsing graduated from Price High School and is engaged in uranium mining The wedding date has not yet been announced.
