The S Emery Bulldogs opened strong, trading baskets with the GRHS Pirates for six minutes in Ferran before a late surge powered by 22 field goals over two quarters. South Emery’s offense heated up in the second and third periods while GRHS kept pace at times but faltered down the stretch.
Blue Goose Mining, Inc. says negotiations complete to purchase 36 uranium claims in Elk Mountain district San Juan County Utah from original stakers. L. E. Murray president notes closing once information approved by directors. terms not disclosed. Exploration to begin when weather allows. Blue Goose cites 40,000 tons blocked out in Circle Cliffs Garfield County Utah and hopes for more properties in ongoing negotiations. Orient Lodge No 15 F and AM to hold special communication February 27 1956 in M M degree with G Chranapoulos as secretary.
Meeting notices invite Green River clubs and organizations to submit meeting dates and news for regular printing. Clubs should send news to the Journal office by Monday for that week’s issue. Council meets on the first Wednesday each month. City Planning Board meets on the second and fifth Thursday each month. Civil Air Patrol meets Wednesdays at 8:00 p.m. in the basement of the Midland Hotel.
San Juan County's Allen No. 2 uranium mine, 65 miles west of Blanding in Red Canyon, now outputs ore at 50 tons per day as workers mine a 12 foot ore body on all sides. Ataco Uranium Inc. holds the lease. Lakeside Monarch Mining Co. owns the property. The mine has a valued ore body over $900,000 and began producing ore in January after a 200 foot shaft was sunk. First shipment was made to the refinery.
Mr and Mrs Marsing of Green River announce the engagement of their daughter Laura Faye to Harry Thompson son of Mr and Mrs Warren Thompson of Green River Laura Faye Marsing is a Green River High School student body vice president business manager of the year book and a printer for the school paper She plans to graduate this year Both were raised in Green River and will wed on March 9 with plans to reside there afterward
A Utah Foundation report finds a typical Salt Lake City family paying 345 in state and local taxes in 1955 received 759 in services from government. It notes high federal employment and property ownership reduce tax receipts, urging greater private investment to fund public services. The analysis highlights 71 percent of Utah land is federally owned and suggests in lieu payments could ease state finances.
In Wagoner County Oklahoma Ranger Uranium and Utaco started drilling on an 80 acre lease in the Redbird district. The joint venture says the lease lies among producing wells and expects shallow depths with soon production.

E Smith Peterson of Salina presides, William Barlock of St George chairs, and Henry Heard of Southern California will deliver the keynote. Officers, three directors, a junior king and queen will be elected. Reports on past season and plans for 1956 will be presented. Mrs. Edna Ohlwhler to report on the women's auxiliary activities.
Jenard Cox, 14, of Green River, died last Sunday when nine sticks of dynamite he detonated with a jeep battery exploded at the Black Panther Mine on the San Rafael River. Two companions fled to summon help as sheriff urges strict storage of dynamite and caps and warns parents to cautions youths about explosive dangers.
Green River Soil Conservation District held a Tuesday meeting in City Hall with attendees including Delbert Tidwell Francis Wilson Boyd Hunt Don Hateh d win Wilcox and Kenneth Williams. A film on saving water in irrigation and on farms was shown and Irene Allen was named secretary replacing Ken Silliman who resigned last December after about 15 years. Allen offers to donate time to support the program. Francis Wilson arranged for Emery County ASC to visit Green River February 27 to aid local farmers in signing up for 1956 Federal Costshare and drought assistance. officials will be at the old school house 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. SCS engineers finalized plans for two sand gates on the Gravity Canal. Alfred King worked on a conservation plan for the canal. Projects ongoing include a flood dam by Nolan Curtis, a pump and levee by Wilson Produce Co., and Briscoe Wash Siphon nearing completion. Gravity Canal re-aligned about 1,000 feet below Wilson’s plant. Other projects await engineering completion with J Arza Adams to report on turkey outlook at a 9:30 AM start, 1:30 PM session and 6:30 PM banquet. Officers of the cooperative include WT Smith Peterson, J Arza Adams, William A. Barlock, Jesse W. Spafford, H. M. Blackrhurst, and C. K. Ferre. several directors named from Nephi to Spanish Fork and Idaho.
