The details are fragmentary but point to a fraud scheme involving multiple employees and payroll irregularities.
A Weld County jury on Tuesday found a man guilty on five counts under the white slave law. Judge Gamble will set the terms next week. The case, a first of its kind locally, involved the defendant's dealings with women and his relationships with men. He had a wife and two children.
Alfa Luckinbill from Sterling Colorado, jailed for horse stealing, forfeited $500 bond after failing to appear for Weld county theft charges. His mother in Oklahoma sold possessions to post bail, while he fled country until Logan county authorities recaptured and he was later jailed for another theft charge.
The annual interclass track meet at the college athletic field saw the class team title go to the College class with 55 points, juniors 43, and seniors 11. West shattered the century record with 94.5 seconds and led in hurdles and hammer throw, while Thompson placed well in events including high vault potential.

At the St Louis National stock yards two loads of Missouri steers set a record price. One load from Saline county averaged 1577 pounds and brought 9.154 dollars per hundredweight. A second load from St Louis county averaged 1500 pounds at the same price. Corn is 30 cents higher than a year ago, when cattle topped at 6.20 a hundred.
Annual art sewing and manual training exhibit to be held in the eighth grade building basement on Thursday and Friday. Miss Mary Wright leads the sewing department with excellent work by the girls while Prof. W Middleton guides the boys in furniture projects. Exhibit open 10 AM to 5 PM.
The Denver meeting of Methodist ministers heard Dr. David H. Fouse argue that social evil is widespread and that ministers must study socialism and address social conditions. He urged ministers to support industrial democracy, seek broader cultural guidance, and consider regulated dancing forms to reduce harm among youth.

A Bryan lecture at Sterling Theater June 9 precedes the season but does not affect ticket holders. Strong attractions promised by management.
Latest returns from Denver show the entire Citizens ticket led by Arnold elected by handsome majorities. Democrats and Republicans concede their tickets are hopelessly beaten. In Ohio Roosevelt has 82 of 42 delegates, with a wide plurality about 20,000 votes over Taft, making the state crucial for convention control. Harmon to 28 delegates, Wilson eight. Bryan and Clark receive scattered votes. Harmon led in presidential preference.
Oscar Bittner foreman for Klug ranch was thrown from a horse when the animal stepped in a park hole while roping cattle. He dislocated his right shoulder but rode six miles to summon Dr Spaulding of Kersey. Bittner, young and strong, has had recent injuries and expects to return to work soon.
Emma Huffsmith Westover, an early Colorado pioneer who arrived in 1863, died at Evans after a five month illness. Born December 3, 1840 in Monroe County Pennsylvania, she and her husband Daniel Westover farmed near Central City before relocating to Evans. She leaves no children, brothers Samuel Huffsmith of Denver and Peter Huffsmith of Greeley and three Evans sisters. Funeral tomorrow at 2 p.m. from the Evans Methodist church.
Evans school board announces retained staff and hires for the coming year. Mrs Addington will become principal, replacing a man in the role. New teachers include Miss Nicholson Miss Bertha Baab and Miss Mildred Baldwin. A fifth grades teacher remains to be hired.
Educational affairs fill days and evenings through month end with plays, commencements, and banquets. Key events include the college high school class play Barbara Frietchie, eighth grade and college graduations, speeches by Mayor Rae H. Keightley and Dr. Harrop, senior plays The Countess Kathleen, Fete Day, and senior promenade, with baccalaureate sermons at Sterling theater and Congregational church.
