City officials discussed nuisance complaints and abatement actions with police oversight. Aldermen debated funding, duties, and donor gifts while praising community contributions and local fairs progress amid ongoing municipal concerns.
Messrs Anish King and Rick VIII of Denmark arrived with retinue in apparent health. Frederick, pro of Denmark, noted as Fred on January 30, 1906, linked to Christian IX. The Crawford family from Pittsburg Pa plan two days’ visit to California, staying with Mrs H Way, while The Pierce Mer pany will move into the store building tomorrow.
Great Western Sugar company posts a standing $10,000 reward for a machine that can rapidly pull and top sugar beets. The prize is for the invention itself, with no patent or manufacturing rights granted to the company. Current beet pulling and topping costs run around $40 per acre, a new device would vastly reduce expenses.
The County Commercial club met at the Greeley club rooms to push road district creation. About 200 signatures remain to reach the 5,480 necessary from Weld county voters. 5,328 have been secured. The booklet project for distribution advances and efforts will recruit unrepresented county sections for publicity. A bids process for printing and a county newspaper file are planned and a door sign ordered.
Windsor, May 15. L. C. But scher and Frank Harrington each bought 21 head of milk cows to expand their herds. Short Horns from a stockman east of Denver and other good milkers are adding to local stock. The Windsor creamery yields 100 pounds of butter daily and recently paid all expenses, signaling a strong startup two months in. Dairy demand remains high and the industry is well established. Revy. J. BE. Lynn will read a paper on Monday before the Greeley Ministerial association titled The Rural Church.
Town of Johnstown held a meeting to discuss a 20000 bond for building a waterworks system with reservoirs west of town and supplying water from Big Thompson river via Home Supply ditch. If approved, bonds will be issued. no plant construction will start before the election. Election judges named William Parkin H Parish C W Kitts A Clingenpeel and C B Goodwin.
Paris May 15 five policemen were shot down and two leaders of the auto bandits were dynamited after a eight hour siege at Nogent Sur Marne. Octave Garnier co leader with Bonnat killed April 18 and Vallet buried in the ruins after the villa siege. crowds tore at the corpses as police tried to clear the street and final cars were started to haul away bodies. A dramatic moment saw a woman flee the burning building as the fight continued.
In Greeley two former stage performers Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Ellis have begun nightly revival services at the Salvation Army hall. Once full time musicians, they left show business after a restored wife’s illness and a tent revival sparked their new calling. They will stay in Greeley for several weeks.
Johnstown May 1 public school grades hold exercises in Lawrence hall tomorrow afternoon with the high school graduating class having class day exercises in the evening. On Saturday three graduates will receive diplomas in Charles Hewitt presiding. Frances Eberhar Hewit: Albert Feland and Edna Forty are named as completing the course. About forty pupils will enter the union high school next term.
District court today issued papers to residents of the county eligible for full citizenship. About 40 applicants faced examinations as the court planned a daylong session. The event continued with multiple filings and inquiries ahead of a fall naturalization date.
May 15 Platteville reports cooperative effort by O. F. lodge members and others to lay 265 feet of concrete walks around the I O O F block at the town center. James I directs the work with every member helping. George Hodgson surveys, Morgan brothers and others haul gravel for the project.
A dinner at noon will honor the Lucierce heir with friends present at the I. O. O. Hall. L. L. Haines reports good fruit prospects in the western region after a three week stay near Cory and Junction. He cites an unusually early bloom, breezy conditions, and 20 acres of peach trees expected to yield 20,000 peaches this fall.
Frank Arnold living on a farm near LaSalle proposes a county saloon plan to curb saloon menace. A saloon at every courthouse would be operated by a locally selected manager, 25 percent of net profits to the operator and 75 percent to the county, earmarked for school expenses. Arnold believes Weld County could lead and inspire others to adopt the scheme.
The Lean baseball squad prepares for today’s game with a 20 man lineup but plans to use only nine on the field. They anticipate wind resistance aiding their defense against the Fats and expect to outperform in perspiration over the heat. Team lineup includes Condon Read Ware Gordon Higgins Weibking Harris Criswell Guilder Wetzel English Davenport Lange Watford Ice Spear Custer Hayden Harbaugh Lincoln.
The Commercial Club schedules a ladies night on Monday evening June 10 to close the season. Directors authorized President J M B Petrikin to delegate program control to the women who will run the event. Last year’s program was praised as interesting and enjoyable, and this year is expected to surpass it.
Judge G H Bradfield will speak at the Fort Lupton Eighth grade commencement exercises. The program is set for May 22. The Fort Lupton High School closes this week with no exercises.
Funeral services for the late Richard Kelly who died in Denver Monday night will be held tomorrow at 2 30 PM at the Episcopal church in Greeley.
Deputy dairy inspector E. B. Dupree warned in Greeley that most country butter is 3 to 4 ounces short per pound and contains excess moisture. A state law caps moisture at 16 percent and requires 84 percent solids. violators face heavy fines. Merchants seek remedies as rancidity and short weight persist.
Gill May 15 Directors of the Gill school board voted to add the tenth grade to the Gill school next September. About seven or eight pupils will finish the ninth grade this month and the new grade will be taught for them. A large eighth grade class will complete this month and may continue with two years of high school work. If demand remains, the remaining two years of a four year high school will be established. The district operates Sunny Vale and Lincoln schools, which feed into Gill for high school without charge. The three schools serve just over 100 pupils with four teachers. The district is financially sound and the board includes Howard Briscoe Mrs. A. M. Russell and J. S. Harrison.
The Pierce Checker club travels to Nunn tonight for the third game of its checker tournament series. Both teams are evenly matched and a close score is anticipated.
Chautauqua season tickets are on sale at local businesses with the event set to begin in about a month. Bryan's address precedes the main series due to the Democratic National convention in Baltimore. Admission for non ticket holders is fifty cents on Bryan day. Redpath-Horner promises a stronger program, featuring the Royal Italian Guards Band from Italy and three international acts, including two Italian companies and a New Zealand troupe.
