Dam breach floods Boyd Lake split and water flows out
The massive earthen dam dividing the two basins of Boyd Lake failed between Thursday night and Friday morning allowing about a billion cubic feet of water to escape. The lake’s capacity reaches 9.0 billion cubic feet and full access to outlets remains limited. Northern Colorado Power work continues on nearby reservoirs and a plant near Sulphide while Eastern Colorado Power plans a 1.5 million dollar project on Middle Boulder Creek and Lafayette.

The high school faculty hosted the senior class last Friday at Mr. and Mrs. B. Carter home. Decorations featured blue and white senior colors with flags and pennants. Guests enjoyed games charades and college songs. refreshments were by Miss Miller and three junior girls Edith Kurtz Myrtle King and Dorothea Haynes. Seventeen seniors plus hosts and hostesses attended.

Reservoir Roof Piping Pending on Large City Water Tank
Cement work on the distributing reservoir for the city water works is finished. The remaining task is roofing, a sizable job given the reservoir’s scale. Cement pillars will stand fourteen feet apart in one direction and eighteen feet in the other. the tank will hold five million gallons of water. Piping and valves are laid for a second reservoir of similar size to accommodate growth beyond fifteen thousand inhabitants.

Despondent farmer attempts suicide with carbolic acid near Highland
J. O. Boyd a half mile from Highland switch swallowed carbolic acid Thursday around 3 pm. The aged, diluted poison left him alive with good recovery prospects. He is middle aged, blind for two years, troubled by a neck growth, and lives with his wife and grown daughter.

Several Greeley residents were elected to offices during a Colorado Springs encampment of the G A R and allied bodies. Carr-Borle Cutoff Resumes Work Near Athol Hill
Work on the Carr-Borle railroad cutoff, planned to shorten the Union Pacific line from Carr to Borie via the Poudre canyon and over the mountains to Wamsutter, Wyoming, has resumed after a pause caused by a Wall Street fluctuation. Kirkpatrick & Collins had been reassigned to the main line near Laramie but are now back at work near Athol hill.
