Local business figure George P Devenport dies after illness
The Greeley business leader died at about 5 30 in the morning following a violent hiccoughing fit that ruptured a stomach stitch. Born 1858 in New York, he built homes in Greeley after moving from Arkansas Valley and helped develop Sugar City during beet boom days. He founded the Sugar City Herald and earlier the Rocky Ford and Fowler Tribunes. Survived by his wife Maggie Hendrix Devenport and his father, the funeral was held at the Methodist church.
