Plan to Improve Spelling Across Grades With Oral and Written Practice

A schoolwide spelling initiative prompts weekly oral and written tests across third through eighth grades. Top ten spellers in each room are named, with the best two chosen for an inter-room oral contest. silver badges are awarded and published in local papers. Names of the ten top spellers in each room are listed by grade and room with several teachers named.

Early Lake Country Settlers and Builders Chronicle

The paragraph recalls a bowl like ground depression at the Lake area before settlement with a twenty five foot depth. A canal route ran from Greeley to Longmont and landowners Pound and Mead planned a reservoir once irrigation works finished. Mead stocked bass, Pound expanded alfalfa and hog farming failed. R S True married in Greeley and traveled by stage to Longmont through the lake bed.

Decoration Day Exercises Marred by Rain

Decoration Day ceremonies were hindered by steady rain. Cemetery decorating was limited and afternoon activities at the Methodist church drew only a small crowd. W. C. Thomas presided as Charles F. Tew delivered a stirring address. E. B. Hatch led a sextet, Mrs. Grace N. Allen recited My Comrade and I, and Mrs. Clementine Hawes presented magnolia blossoms from the south to the W. R. group.

Public Schools Exhibit Shows Sharp Sewing Progress

Visitors marveled at the needlework exhibit in the grade building basement proving sewing education under Miss Edith Gale yields skilled, diligent work. Eighth graders led decorating, seventh graders drafted patterns, and younger grades learned hems and raffia designs with 450 girls trained.

A company of Greeley ladies were entertained in Eaton last Saturday. Mrs. M. S. Losey hosted a nine o'clock breakfast and Mrs. Thomas Dailey followed with a luncheon at one, honoring Mesdames W. H.
