Woodmen of World Memorial Service Planned Next Sunday

The Woodmen of the World annual memorial service will be held at the Christian church on Sunday June 4 at 2 15 PM conducted by Rev J Thompson a member of the order. Members from Greeley will assemble at L O O F hall at 1 PM and march to the church led by the Greel band. After the service the group will visit the cemetery to decorate 35 graves and unveil a new monument with Vietor BE Keyes as orator. Members are asked to bring flowers and participate in the day’s exercises in memory of the departed.

Erie Commercial Club Holds Reawakening Meeting

A reawakening meeting of the Erie Commercial Club was held to plan future activity. The club moved into new rooms with a banquet hall and large assembly space. A prize offer to farmers for best crop exhibits was approved, with winners to advance to Weld County exhibit. County club head McCrery provided an encouraging talk.

Greeley Man Loses Family in California Flight

William Gill of Greeley failed to prevent his step daughter Mabel Spencer from taking her half sister Ada Gill to California. The girls fled to Corlett near Cheyenne where they boarded a train for California, eluding Gill who arrived too late to stop them.

Chi Alpha Theta Sorority Plans Dance at Camfield Hall

Chi Alpha Theta members announce a Friday evening dance at Camfield Hall with invited guests from other sororities and attendees from Denver and nearby cities Boulder, Lawrence Kansas, Laramie Wyoming. Mrs J Wilson Currens, sorority president, will attend. Denver decorations and orchestra are arranged for what promises to be one of Greeley’s prettiest affairs.

Sorority Beef Steak Fry Near Town Draws Crowd

A jolly crowd of Chi Alpha Theta sorority members and friends held a beef steak fry Tuesday at the head of No. 8 ditch, eight miles west of town. Delta Phi Omega sorority members also picnic in a nearby ravine.

Census Indicates Need for New High School Building

The completed school census shows 2,404 school age persons in district No. 6 with 1,179 males and 1,225 females. It notes many residents move to farms in March, suggesting a larger count if taken then. supports call for a new high school.

Denver firm bids lowest on city filter bed contract

Foster and Doll of Denver won the award for concrete and piping on the new city filter bed with a bid of 7 565 dollars excluding sand and gravel later. Work to begin in June and the bed ready for sand and gravel by mid August. Crossing orders target Eighteenth Street at Eleventh Avenue and Eleventh Avenue at Broadway with crossovers by railroads to be bid per foot.

Senior Spud fund funds party spread across town

The Greeley Spud annual board, with a $20 treasury, planned a five-home progressive dinner for the Senior class and high school faculty. The first course was at editor-in-chief Nelson Reynolds home, followed by courses at H. D. Parker, Charles Mason, J. T. Er, and A. J. Allen residences.

Four Frederick coal miners go on trial for Christmas Eve shooting

The district court opened for the trial of Lippatt, Barclay, Saunders and Beal, charged with shooting Mrs. Mary Cox on Christmas Eve after a night of drinking and rioting. Key witnesses had fled but were later located in West Virginia coal camps with sheriff McAfee securing protection. The attack left Mrs. Cox wounded in the back, initially feared fatal. Also noted are visits from Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Newton and Mrs. Fitzpatrick of Salida.

Spuds lose 6 to 4 in ten innings in the first game at Island Grove park as Denver University pulls ahead late. In the second game the Spuds win 7 to 2 giving the visitors a split of the doubleheader before the season’s largest crowd.

Wyoming moves to block Laramie Poudre tunnel plan

Wyoming files in the supreme court to obtain leave to file a bill of complaint seeking subpoenas and an injunction against Colorado and its irrigation bodies. The suit targets diversions from the Laramie river claimed to exceed Colorado allocations and to violate Wyoming rights. The case notes a tunnel under construction and seeks equity relief before October term.

Tolliver and Magril Signed for Monday Wrestling Match

Art Magril of Nebraska and Roy Tolliver of Greeley have agreed to wrestle Monday evening in Academy Hall. They previously met at Hastings with a lengthy bout ending in Tolliver being knocked out. Manager Varney confirms the signing and fans expect a strong, well matched contest with preliminary events planned. John Eichler aged fourteen died yesterday of diphtheria in Windsor. Funeral plans not yet announced.

Yeggmen Target Union Pacific Depot Safe in Platteville

Yeggmen blew the depot safe between midnight and 1 a m using nitro glycerine after soap ing the cracks and left with only pennies. No injuries, no arrests reported. A large monster fourth of July celebration with ball games races sports and fireworks is planned.

Riley Harris and C. D. Palmer return the first of the week from a brief fishing trip up the Poudre. Harris leaves this evening for St. Louis to visit his sister and then goes to Indiana for a visit.

Seniors Hold Their Class Day Program at High School

Class night exercises were held last evening in the auditorium as part of the annual commencement rites. The program featured the G. H. S&S Orchestra, vocal and piano solos, readings, a class gift presentation, a class poem read by Nelson Reynolds, and a class song performed by the entire senior class.

Strychnine Fatal to Local Ranch Woman

Mrs Fannie Cole died after mistaking strychnine for her usual medicine at the ranch near Grover. Coroner T G Macy ruled the death accidental. Mrs Cole, wife of rancher T W Cole, was buried on the ranch.
