Greeley city council last evening debated salaries for officials after spring elections. Aldermen proposed raising pay for mayor, aldermen, clerk, treasurer, and other posts citing duties and costs, with changes likely announced in a new salary ordinance next Monday. Local concerns included inspector access, police duties, and the need for qualified candidates.
Ella Hinkle has filed for divorce from J Hinkle amid allegations of cruelty and infidelity. The pair married in St. Louis in 1904 and have two children, Juanita and Colo, with custody sought by the mother. The case cites the husband’s abandonment and the wife’s moving to support herself, noting the Park restaurant as a recent context.
Jim Moore the Ault druggist was brought to Greeley on four counts after witnesses testified to whiskey purchases. He pleaded not guilty and posted bonds for trial. The sheriff seeks further disclosures as town tensions rise. The Weckers remain jailed with the man in custody and the woman and two children in hospital.
Franklin P. Davis and his wife of New York City were in the city for several days and left last evening for Denver. Davis serves as manager for the Bancroft Psychological association in New York.
The ways and means committee of Weld County clubs met at the Commercial club to organize a Weld County fair association. They aim to hold the fair between Septembers and display Weld County exhibits at Pueblo and the inter state fair in Denver. A general manager would run the operation year round with stock to be raised to 20000 for permanent buildings and equipment.
S. M. Bayes and R. J. Bider and a snow plow clear the Davis corner to town road two miles east of Ault. Dealers demand potatoes, but current roads block hauling.
Contracts with Watson Bradfield Roberts Miller and others complete right-of-way along the proposed extension. Farmers including A W Roberts and Will Miller receive cash payments while portions of their land will be moved or cut for the line. Kilpatrick Bros oversee work as euphoning pipes reach the corridor and grading progresses with Sprague as contractor.
The Yeagy Grocery store changed hands in the morning, with new buyers J. L. Jones and Harvey Somerville taking over. The shop, among the largest in town, was owned by George Yeagy and Dan Miller. Yeagy will devote his future time to his dry goods store.
LaSalle special reports route one mail man H. A. Edie completed only nine miles of his daily trip due to heavy drifts making roads impassable. Route two, driven by T. R. Blackwood, did reach through but three hours late.
Ur Snyder reported in chapel that the legislature recommended the bill to appropriate $100,000 for a new training school building, citing committee approval.
Greeley plans to test the U S Standard voting machine at precinct 12 in the courthouse for the April 6 election. City officials debated its use after Denver attorney G L Hodges demonstrated the device, noting faster, accurate results and potential county-wide rental plans.
Miss Rausch led a Tuesday short course showing fireless cookers and cooking demonstrations. She cautioned cookers cannot do all tasks, but many are useful with longer cooking times and careful measuring. 141 women registered, with 20 high school students attending afternoon demos.
Saturday evenings Armory duel features the two local basketball teams meeting for a decisive contest. The Pioneers lead the season series two games to none after 46 45 and 45 44 decisions, and a close finish is expected.
Paine, a Nettleton ranch hand near Raton, narrowly escaped serious harm after losing his stirrups while herding cattle. The horse fell, Paine was dragged beneath it for a distance before freeing himself, but the horse remained gentle and he sustained only a general shakeup.
