Unique Schaeffer dam under way in Fremont County
The Schaeffer dam and reservoir on Beaver Creek in eastern Fremont County Colorado is under construction by Beaver Land and Irrigation Co. The project will impound flood waters to form a 6000 acre foot reservoir able to irrigate about 3500 acres for Beaver Park. Construction uses hydraulic methods with core concrete on bed rock, clay diaphragms, and rock fill, with completion expected nearly a year away and storage starting around March 15 for testing and water supply during build.
