Separately, reports from Oasis hotel recount Joseph’s delivery scheme, with up to 100 people seeking goods and a suspected 3000 to 4000 dollar bilking, while finding no one willing to admit participation.
A large crowd awaits the return to the city of Charles R Joseph of Chicago who sold goods to farmers and others while samples and orders were shipped. Taxes on three trunks of samples raised funds for the county, and delivery of garments ordered in Greeley was missed by over two weeks.
The New York World cites Germany as the top potato producer with 8.9 million acres and 1.59 billion bushels, far surpassing the United States. It notes per capita output, alcohol from potatoes, and uses in distilleries, lamps, engines, starch, and feed, while half of German consumption goes to people and half to animals.
Bodo von Trotha wins absolute divorce from Julia Kellerman von Trotha on desertion grounds. The Weld County case, famed for romance and secrecy since a Cheyenne 1901 marriage, featured evasions, letters, and disputed terms. The jury’s sealed verdict grants the plaintiff the relief sought and the case may go to the Colorado Supreme Court on appeal.
Arthur A. Bradley a former book keeper for National Cash Register in Denver was arrested at the Greeley sugar factory where he worked in the pulp department Detec tive J C McNeill and Marshal Camp made the arrest. Bradley used the name Frank S Wilson and faces embezzlement charges for 1000 dollars of NCR funds. Denver officers traced Bradley through his wife and a money package she collected from Frank S Wilson. Bradley confessed that gambling led to the embezzlement and the case follows him to Denver.
Attorneys for plaintiffs argued for a change of judge, Judge Garrigues granted a 30 day pleading period, and indicated he would decline to act when the case is called next term. The Currier trustees connection was cited as a reason to avoid bias.
Marshal Camp ended a weekly disruption by ejecting about twenty newsboys who shouted insults and blocked customers at the post office doors Sunday mornings. The clerks reported clearer inspections and better hearing for mail requests after the removal.
A Saturday night explosion at Mack's grocery damaged the back room. The oil stove, lit to prevent freezing, blew apart leaving a charred floor and soaked oil across the incline to the basement. Fire injuries appear unlikely but the cause remains speculative.
The Baptist church of Greeley extended a unanimous call to Rev. Henry Clark, former pastor of Salida's Baptist church. Owing to his wife's poor health they moved to Denver three weeks ago. Clark, a noted lecturer, will begin his pastorate next Sunday replacing Rev. C. M. Rupe who resigned last summer.
