In Washington on December 6 the President outlines anti trust policy and court decisions on Standard Oil and American Tobacco. He defends federal incorporation of interstate corporations and urges clearer legislative tools to maintain competition.
In Denver and county displays, Mattox from Tobias county earned first prize for best apple display with 23 crates from a seven acre orchard. He captured two second prizes for other varieties and earned blue ribbons for best apple by products. A solid silver tea pot and a cracker company gift box accompanied the awards.
A party including Mr and Mrs Allen and guests faced a five hour delay east of Greeley on a Plains voting trip when a tire blew out. They waited for an extra tire as repairs were made and a tele line arranged anew. The group, traveling to Camfield to vote, endured the setback before continuing home.
Hutchinson Kansas reports a quarter ton of food to feed John Redenbaugh’s Burrton family for Thanksgiving. 119 people attended from great grandfather to great granddaughter, with 15 turkeys and large quantities of oysters dressing cranberries celery and pies. Mr Redenbaugh aged 75 has nine children 66 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.
Weld county records show 200 marriage licenses issued so far in 1911 with three weeks remaining. The year’s trend highlights that none of the licenses were issued on January 1 and holiday periods did not spur more nuptials.
Superintendent A B Copeland of Ordway schools spent Thanksgiving in Greeley with his wife and has returned to work. Ada B Coats, former Greeley high school teacher, joined the Copeland family for Thanksgiving. she now teaches at Cheyenne high school.
The Ladies' Aid Society of the Methodist church holds an all day meeting at Mrs. Lane's home in Kersey. A noon dinner will be served and members will spend the day working after a brief business session.
J R Moore won the Greeley Poudre district director post with 166 of 247 votes after defeating C R B Latham. Voting occurred at Nunn, Pierce and Camfield with local landowners casting ballots. In Henrylyn district C M Ireland defeated W H Beggs for director with 51 of 96 votes.
Enthused Weld county democrats meet at Frank J Green’s office to organize the Weld County Wilson Club aimed at backing Governor Wilson for president. Frank Green elected chairman with Charlies E Phelps secretary. a committee was named to plan details and report in two weeks.
Walter McCullough returns to England for the first time in 24 years to visit his childhood home. He is the son of James and the late Mrs. McCullough of the La Grange district. He came to America with his parents as a child and will be joined briefly by his mother and sister Miss Sarah McCullough who accompany him to La Salle before the visit ends.
Evans date line reports Henry Westree, a carpenter with years of safe work, cut off his little finger while splitting kindling for his wife. He returned home unconscious and a physician dressed the wound, leaving the finger on the chopping block.
City council spent most of Tuesday night debating the appropriations ordinance to be ready for action next week. The levy remains the same as last year with slightly lower valuation, tightening figures on city income. Attorney Townsend served notice of a $300 refund claim for Red Darnell tied to a police court dispute. A park project for Glenmere was advanced on first reading. Citizens may obtain permits to remove cottonwood trees if they meet city rules, and Vanderlip sought approval to bury a 280 gallon gasoline tank on Eighth Avenue sidewalk. Health data show the city’s overall health improving vs last year.
The Philharmonic society of Greeley rehearsed Tuesday night at the Presbyterian church for a concert next Tuesday at the Sterling theater. The program features the new St Johns Eve cantata performed by the combined orchestra of 20 and the chorus. The rehearsal suggests a memorable debut and a local talent record.
A bright meteor lit the northwest sky near Greeley around 9 30 pm sparking reports of an explosion. Residents from Eaton to Kersey observed the falling stars and tremors as homes rattled, with parties checking Crow Creek later for the impact site.

Poudre Valley lodge No. 12 I O O F held its annual election of officers at the regular meeting Tuesday evening. An oyster supper followed. The Greeley lodge is the second largest in the state with over 400 members. Elected were Ed Livigood N G, J H Kidder W G, A A Woodbury re-elected financial secretary, and F J Allnutt re-elected treasurer.
The Kersey Gun Club will host a turkey shoot on Thursday December 21. A large number of turkeys will be distributed and many attendees from the country and nearby towns are expected. If weather turns bad the event will be moved to a large potato cellar.
Superintendent C E B Carter of Greeley Public Schools elected to the School masters club which meets monthly in Denver. Membership is limited to 60 with a long waiting list, and being chosen is considered a notable honor.
Norman Fry of the Elkhorn mountains returns from a two month visit to London England. He is accompanied by his youngest sister Miss Mary Fry who will stay until October. Mrs Fry and two older sisters have visited. Miss Mary Fry is making her first trip. The family met Norman in Denver and have since visited Greeley friends. Miss Mary Fry went to Ault to see her brother Walter Fry before returning to the mountains.
Mrs Katie Davidson wife of Wayne Davidson died after a long illness at Greeley hospital on Wednesday. She lived in Greeley for many years and was loved by all who knew her. Survived by her husband two daughters and one son. Funeral by Rev J L Thompson at 2 PM Friday at the family home.
Eaton unveils the B H Eaton Memorial Library built by Mrs. Rebecca Eaton and presented to the city by Bruce G. Eaton. Patronesses hosted an all day reception and an evening program of music and talks. W B Longworth donated a large Ancient Forum of Rome picture for the main hall.
Mrs. G. D. Horne and her daughter Mrs. G. E. Horne will discontinue their Friday at home routine during December, affecting their usual weekly visits and arrangements.
