Lupton December 12 The beet growers of this section gathered in the armory to discuss forming a growers union. Three farmers attended and McAvery was elected president with W B Cooper as secretary and treasurer. A follow up meeting is planned for Saturday morning in the armory. The group aims to set a standard price for labor in the fields.

The Bureau of Statistics estimates Colorado winter wheat acreage this year at 209000, up 8000 from last year, with crop condition at 88 percent of normal. US wheat sown in fall totals 32213000 acres, down 1.3 percent. December 1 condition stands at 86.6 percent, below last year and 1909, while the ten year December 1 average is 89.9 percent.
Public school pupils sell Red Cross stamps to win prizes based on sales per school size. Prizes include a vacuum cleaner sized to each building and a mahogany piano valued at 400 dollars donated by Knight Campbell Music. Proceeds benefit the society and the piano aids the old high school auditorium.
County Superintendent W. C. Thomas left Tuesday to tour schools north and west of Windsor. Since September he has visited 110 schools and plans about 100 more beyond Greeley Eaton and Windsor town schools, noting long drives from rail lines.
John Kennedy and Audrey McNeill, respected Johnstown farmers, narrowly escaped death when suspect John Sholtz fired three shots at them and pressed a pistol to their faces accusing them of stealing 66 turkeys. It took about an hour to prove they were innocent.
Several giant jack rabbits that appear crossed with white tail deer have been killed in Cuero Texas and brought in during the last weeks. The rabbits show well defined antlers several inches long and many horned jackrabbits have been killed recently.
In Eaton on December 13, farmers confronted Union Pacific agents seeking leases or to remove fences from a claimed 400 foot right of way. Farmers produced deeds and tax receipts showing the land is not theirs. Leaders vow concerted action, citing past fence-cutting incidents and long occupancy of land valued at 300 dollars per acre.
J M Peterson known as the Christmas tree man departed Tuesday for his annual mountain trip to gather evergreens. He expects to return with 400 trees of various sizes and carries an order for ten large church trees. Most will be small with prices from 75 cents to $1 50.
Fort Lupton reports shipments of cattle as O. R. B. Frink and A. C. Cheely each sent a carload of steers Tuesday fed on cabbage and tomato pulp. J. W. Kelsey and A. B. Howe also shipped carloads fed on grasp and beet tops.
The Masonic lodge in Johnstown held its first meeting Monday in a newly fitted Eureka Hall. Members reported the event as a successful start to their activities in the rebuilt venue.

The Weld county poultry show opens in Camfield Trust building with a large display of birds. Exhibitors like H. H. Borgmann with 17 Langshans and Clarence Candlin with eight pens of White Leghorns arrive. Lectures by W. C. Schumann and Judge John Heddick are planned, and school children may attend free Thursday afternoon.
An auto with M. C. Frits, wife and four children rolled over after the 12 year old son lost control on a bend. Mrs Frits was pinned but revived five hours later. All others escaped with minor bruises.
City council on first reading approves a total appropriation of 108000 dollars matching last year with 3000 set aside for park improvements requiring a public vote. Library and park maintenance up, fire down, lighting and police up, sewer down, streets up 2000. County match needed for nursery funds.
James H. Bradd of Keota Caro line Wahl of Roggen and George A Janaway of Grover defend their homesteads in a United States land office hearing brought by the government on the charge they did not conform with settlement laws. Frank Madden district court clerk presides over the local land office proceeding.
Five days of sales by school children reach 9000 Red Cross stamps, an excellent showing. Last year 14000 were sold. 20200 expected before year end. Sales pause on December 21 due to vacation reporting. older pupils and teachers will push sales until January 1.
Men from the Interurban Construction company were in Fort Lupton on Tuesday. They arranged for securing a right of way through the town.
Miss Marion Van Dyne spoke at the Salmagundi club meeting held at her home on Tuesday evening. She outlined conditions in Greeley this winter through Associated Relief and urged providing work for the unemployed. guests included Mrs. Louis Elliott and Mrs. Daisy King.
A test of the water works plant on Tuesday turned on the streets but failed to supply enough water for Fort Lupton. Officials report ongoing trouble with the new plant and expect new machinery soon.
The Catholic fair lights up Greeley halls from 8 to 12 each night with a six piece dance orchestra, changing pictures, and a parade preview from Atlantic City. Visitors enjoy booths, refreshments, cigars, fancy work, door prizes, diamond ring and gold watch contests, and nightly entertainment culminating Saturday.
Greeley high debuts its winter basketball season in a home game against the Agricultural College team. The Aggies promise a test for the new Greeley squad as tryouts continue and first string selections remain unsettled.
Maw Fo Manderson of Loveland has reopened the Royal cafe in Milliken. The cafe, previously run by J. F. Huffsmith, had been closed for some time.
