Tribune notes popular ladies vie for world’s fair trips with strong support from many friends. Article highlights the Talk of the Town contest and the enthusiasm surrounding candidates and hopefuls.
The contest awards 500 votes for a one year subscription and 250 for six months. Old subscribers paying $2 gain 200 credits and want ads to the Tribune earn 20 credits. Winners include the top credit holder among Greeley residents and the top outside candidate. Two barns burned near 4 30 Saturday morning. one owned by M J O Connell at Thirteenth Street and Fifth Avenue with calf lost. the other west of the tracks at Sixteenth Street owned by Perry Murray with a cow lost. Both barns destroyed, no insurance, suspected fire from a passing freight engine.
Denver Elks 300 strong arrived by special Union Pacific train at 8 pm, greeted by a large Greeley crowd and band. A ceremonial procession formed and marched through the city to the lodge, keeping the town awake past midnight.

J C Johnson once with Greeley now in Denver faces numerous chicken stealing charges. He was acquitted last Friday of an assault to kill case brought by Frank T Corning after Corning was shot during a bid to rob his hen roost. Johnson had prior arrests by Denver and locally.
