The city enacts steep dog fines and licensing rules. Owners must register dogs, pay 2 dollars per male and 4 dollars per female, fit collars with tags, and muzzling or impounding when needed. Violations carry 5 to 10 dollar fines, with impoundment and potential killing of unclaimed dogs after notice periods.
Two large autos from Denver bring a party of Colorado capitalists including D. A. Camfield, H. Shields, James R. Thorpe, W. F. Niff, M. J. Smith, Preston Sleybeck, R. W. Campbell, and J. C. Ulrich. They tour Crow Creek as the Greeley Poudre project awaits potential financing from Colorado capital, with plans to fund the entire venture.
Mrs Elien Noecker wife of W L Noecker died Friday at the family home 401 Sixth Street. She was 48 and death was due to paralysis. She is survived by her husband and several children with funeral arrangements not yet made.
The U S government warns local banks to watch for unsigned bank notes lost from a mail pouch near Bryan Wyoming two weeks ago. The pouch contained postage stamps and notes from several California banks with values totaling over five thousand dollars. A man used some notes in Erie shortly after the loss. Local officers should be alerted if the specific notes described are seen.
A burglar tried to force a kitchen window at Dr. J. H. Shane's Windsor home about 1 a m but fled when the doctor fired his revolver. Shane identified the suspect, who may be the same person who earlier stole J. W. Thompson's $40 watch and chain. Thompson initially underestimated the loss, thinking it a prank. Meanwhile, reservoir irrigationists from Greeley and Fort Collins travel to Denver to protest a state order requiring towers to be built at the end of intake tubes rather than at lake embankment edges, fearing wind, waves, and ice damage.
A dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Russell honored four birthday celebrants. Guests included H. A. Russell A. B. Devoe Satia Darline and George Wear. The table for nineteen featured yellow and white decor a May basket centerpieces and candles on four cakes.
In Seattle on May 7 a balcony broke loose in a new armory during drill, sending about five hundred people to the oak pavement sixteen feet below. Between 150 and 175 were injured, some fatally and many seriously, as rescuers rushed to assist the victims.
In Greeley residents wasted dollars on unmailed souvenir postal cards. The post office enforces a rule requiring these cards to be mailed in envelopes, sealed, and with a two cent stamp as first class mail. Cards sent without envelopes were destroyed as dead letters, costing the public money.
May Day activities adjourned at noon at the Normal training school with Maypole dances and dainty white dresses for the girls while the boys conducted field day exercises in gymnasium outfits. The two groups celebrated in distinct styles on the campus and athletic field.
The Christian Endeavor of the Presbyterian church hosted a May basket social on Thursday evening. A large crowd attended and the event was a success with the young ladies selling their handmade baskets filled with lunch at auction to the highest bidder. A nice sum was raised and attendees enjoyed a pleasant evening.
The office of the justice of the peace has moved to Room 806 in the Opera House block opposite the elevator door. The change is effective immediately for all filings and inquiries.
Mrs. Ira Williams suffers double bereavement after the death of her 10 month old son. The infant’s interment took place in Lupton cemetery following the death of her husband less than a year prior.
Frank Millom of Denver takes over as manager of Canon City’s Bijou vaudeville house. The paper notes his predecessor Frank Milton sold the opera house to F. E. Dewey of Cripple Creek and left for Denver with Mrs. Milton and Mrs. DeLong. Milton boosted business and advertising.
O E Frink of the Silver State Packing company purchases 5000 cherry trees and assigns them to ranches for care until maturity. He expects Fort Lupton soil and climate to yield a fine Colorado cherry and launch a new packing industry. This marks the first large scale cherry raising effort in the county.
Contractor Sprague, building the Pleasant Valley extension, was taken to court by Humane Officer Gale on cruelty charges. Officials inspected about 200 teams and found only two horses not fit for work. one had a sore neck and another hadn’t recovered from an operation. Sprague posted bonds and argues the horses are generally better off working than idle.
The divorce case filed by Frank P. against Rachel M. Jones was dismissed yesterday afternoon as the couple reconciled. They plan to resume their marriage and begin a new honeymoon.
The Union Colony trustees H. T. West J. Max Clark Ovid Plum Robert Steele and B. D. Sanborn held an annual meeting to review stockholders reports and elect officers for the next year They prepared and sent articles to the secretary of state to petition renewal under a new law enacted by the last assembly If not for the law the colony would face extinction in a year aside from Longmont no similar colony exists in the state
The LaSalle high school held its annual reception and banquet at the D S Ellis home. Seventh and BRST Teranh eee eae othe es and school board members attended with wives and faculty. A five course banquet followed with class history prophecy poem and will read aloud.
Mrs A A Larson died Friday in a Denver hospital after a Thursday admission. She was 38 and wife of a well to do farmer, leaving a daughter 18 and a son 10. Her parents are in Canada and could not attend. a brother and cousin were notified. Funeral plans await word from relatives and will likely be held tomorrow with interment in Eaton cemetery.
The Congregational boy choir presents concerts in Greeley and Eaton on May 17 and May 2. Assisted by Couzens Kendel and an orchestra, with Miss Phillips directing music and Wolfe Couture providing a stereopticon show. G. W. Alps is over from Lafayette to attend the Delta Psi fraternity annual banquet this evening.
