Runaway Mules Cause City Traffic Dismay
Three runaways woke the town this morning as a team of mules owned by John Lofgren broke loose on a hill west of town. The beasts hitched to a beer wagon dodged a horse and buggy owned by G W Mashburn, demolishing the buggy and freeing the horse. A Park Merchandise delivery wagon team, tied nearby, bolted through town to Seventh street before snagging on a telephone pole, snapping the tongue and throwing the drivers. No injuries reported, but three rigs suffered heavy damage.

Narrow Escape From Deadly Gas At J Jones Well
Andy Redd of Ault nearly died after being overcome by gas while working at the bottom of a well on the J Jones place in the Fairplay district. A bucket rescue and repeated lowering eventually drew him to the surface as the well showed coal and gas at about 65 feet. The land was bought from Co H Webber and Jones recently built a new house on the site.
