A runaway gray farm wagon with two Japanese drivers sparked a spectacular crash in Greeley injuring no one, though four horses four wagons and a bicycle rack were wrecked. The front team plowed into Stevens express wagon near Elite Billiard Hall as pedestrians narrowly escaped.
United States hosts a broad missionary program by the American Board Congregational Home Missionary Society and the American Missionary Association. Greeley 1.48 boo chosen center. meetings set for March 30 at the Congregational Church. Speakers include Rev Hubert C. Herring D D and delegates from neighboring towns.
Church workers and visiting speakers participate in a multi hour program led by Rev. John Doane. Devotional exercises begin at 2:30 with addresses by Rev. W. O. Berckman and Rev. James F. Cross. Additional talks include Rev. John W. Baird Rev. Thomas Gray and Rev. George A Hood. Dr. Herring delivers the 4:15 address followed by supper and an evening session at Park Congregational Church.
Charles Lofgren departs Monday to visit small towns on the Julesburg branch of the Union Pacific seeking seed potatoes and corn. Snyder Crook Atwood Tiff and other nearby towns are known for dry land crops and strong seed demand this year. Lofgren bought sixteen carloads at Sterting last week and most are sold.
Maps and statements for two more reservoirs were filed in Weld County this morning bringing the year’s total to about thirty. The Ranch Draw reservoir near Keene would cover five sections with 40 million double feet capacity sourced from the South Platte and Box Elder Creek, at an estimated cost of 62000. The Farmers No 1 reservoir would draw from the same sources, feature a 36 foot dam and a capacity of 717,436,421 cubic feet at an estimated cost of 41500. Theodore D. Jones of Greeley is the claimant on Ranch Draw.
The seventh annual Lambda Gamma Kappa ball was held last night at Academy Hall. The hall featured elaborate pennant decorations and red and black skull and crossbones programs. Mrs. Louis Wyatt served as patroness.
Charles Phelps was arraigned on a disorderly conduct charge after an incident involving defiance toward officers. He admitted wrongdoing, apologized, and received a lenient verdict with a warning that a future offense would bring the maximum penalty.
A group of Eaton and Greeley commission men traveled to Eaton to align growers and dealers in the Greeley district. The aim is to list every grower and dealer and establish an official commission with inspectors for future shipments, hoping to uphold the quality of the Greeley spud. Also noted are two Normal school bills advancing in the senate for a new building and millage taxation.
The Greeley Driving Club held its annual meeting and kept officers. They may unite with the county fair to lend $4000 of equipment if a site near Island Grove park is chosen. A flying machine exhibition is considered as a July Fourth draw, with possible use of proceeds for the county fair or a September harness meeting. Committees and officers named.
Mrs. Martha Brooks of Eaton died yesterday morning from pneumonia. Funeral interment followed at Maton cemetery with Rev. Coffman officiating. She leaves a husband and several small children, the family in humble circumstances living south of the Eaton grove.
Mrs. James H. Boyle, linked to the Whitla boy kidnapping, tried to jump from a fast moving train near Valencia Ohio. Sheriff and detectives forced open a toilet door and halted her dive as the 50 mile per hour train carried on with her handcuffed.
A large circus elephant broke loose in San Bernardino California last night causing a townwide panic. The animal ignored fences and outhouses, wreaking havoc in the Tenderloin district before its last sighting. The town remains in a siege-like state as residents stay indoors.
A petition in Eaton seeking to extend the rural route to Severance has gathered sixty two signatures. Severance currently relies on Windsor for morning mail which arrives a day late because Windsor’s carrier departs before Denver’s mail. The Eaton route barely reaches Severance and rumors name a Loveland Eaton line as possible change with a new regime starting April 1.
A strong crowd attended last night as Montaville Flowers presented Ben Hur at the M E church. The performance featured vivid life like impersonations and showed remarkable versatility in its characters earning praise from an attentive audience.
H E Hill Union Pacific traveling passenger agent says the electric special will begin April 14 and reach Greeley around 2 PM the same day marking a new main line link between St. Louis and the Pacific coast. The train, all steel, will include chair cars sleepers and an observation car with electric lights and modern amenities. The Tribune learned the news exclusively from a high road official, ahead of Denver papers. The trip will not pass through in daylight, limiting tourist views of local agriculture near the Seattle fair.
Letters from EKaton Superintendent A B Copeland and S J Peery of Greeley praise the governor for his stand against corruption. Copeland wishes broader power to force resignations while Peery urges continued pressure until the legislature acts.
Two Negro boys Carl and Ben Jones aged 14 and 12 and white companion Eddie Gray 10 were suspended after they unlocked a switch and derailed a Denver train. The engine overturned, the mail car was damaged but no one was killed or seriously injured. Police and railroad officers hunted the switching crew through the night.
Articles of Incorporation filed for the Left Hand Park Reservoir Company a Boulder county proposition extending into Weld county. The aim is to promote an irrigation scheme and the promoters are from the local area describing a small proposition.
On May 28 at the Opera House the Nor mal school department of music stages the most elaborate festival of song yet. About 250 singers from the Normal student body form eight member groups representing 42 nations in costume. Flags and banners, including American Indian nations, will decorate the program with dances from Dutch, Spanish, Scottish, and Indian traditions and bagpipe performances.
