W L Franklin of Greeley plans a sixth New Year’s marriage next Saturday to Grace Wallace of Fort Collins after a Denver divorce. He wed on New Year’s Day six years ago and was divorced six months later. A second New Year’s marriage ended in divorce after a dispute over a beefsteak platter.
Franklin, a potato digger from Greeley, compares marriage to buying livestock, saying he has seen both good and bad temperaments. He doubts future divorces in his family, plans to quit marrying, and chose New Year’s Day 1912 to start anew, but then refuses further interview.
The Pleasant Valley School program showcased careful teacher training and diligent student effort. The flag drill by the boys and star drill by the girls led the event, with the box social raising funds for pupil needs under Principal Miss Lelia Southwell.
Ault on December 27 1009 marked the 77th birthday of William Newell. His son and daughter Mr. and Mrs Samuel Newell planned a surprise dinner. Red and green decorations set a festive scene and Mr Newell remains hearty and active, claiming he has seen seventy eight birthdays.
Raton on December 27 reports the city water was shut off for eighteen hours to install new flues in the boiler at the water works. Water was off from 6 PM Saturday until noon Sunday as engineers labored with minimal rest.
An official states Great Western Sugar Co ranks second worldwide in fattening sheep and cattle. In northern Colorado alone the firm feeds about 9 000 cattle and 19 000 sheep, highlighting its large livestock operations.
Eaton Dec 27 four generations attended the Gillies family reunion with Mrs Jean Gillies known as Grandma Gillies hosting. Baldridge baby represented the fourth generation as guest of honor. Forty two people attended the gathering.
The Christian church in Ault publicly burned the papers representing its last indebtedness during an all day service. Rev. E C Whitaker delivered the morning sermon on The Winning Quality followed by a rally with Mrs J Woland reading on The Church of Christ Retrospective. Members including Jacob Hasbrouck Frank Harris Mrs M A Bozarth Maud Naffsiger and Hila Hasbrouck presented reports. The day closed with an evening service and a sermon titled What Hast Thou in Thy Hands.
In the district including Colorado, Wyoming, Dakota, Kansas and Nebraska, 223 fires were extinguished on national forests this season, with timber loss of 2600 dollars. Patrols kept fires small. total timber value is 90 million dollars. Railroads caused most fires, with 96 incidents. one Black Hills fire accounted for about two thirds of losses.
Fort Lupton defeated Brighton 42 to 4 in a decisive basketball win played here Wednesday night of last week. Fort Lupton dominated with strong offense and stingy defense, improving their season record and leaving Brighton with clear struggles on both ends of the floor.
The Ladies Aid society will hold its next regular meeting on January 6 with Mrs. Ole Boreson presiding. Full attendance is desired.
The Unity church has closed a deal worth about 18500 for the Camfield home property at Tenth avenue and Ninth street. Tearing down the old church will begin next June after the sale of the current site, with a new store building planned at the corner and possibly a rooming house above. The church trustees have not fixed a new site yet and may relocate elsewhere in Greeley.
A deal reported to be worth about 45000 dollars targets property at a city corner. The lot includes the Gates Bargess shop the Greeley Republican the Orpheum theater and a pool hall. Buildings may be torn down for a more pretentious structure. Negotiations between D A Camfield and the owners proceed with near completion steps taken.

The couple were wed by FP D Crook of the Methodist church in the presence of immediate relatives. The bride wore white silk mul and carried carnations. Out-of-town guests included Mr and Mrs Gershom Forbes of Denver and Mr and Mrs George White of Montana. They will reside in Evans.
Mr and Mrs J W Beggs traveled to St Louis Missouri to spend the holidays with their parents making a family visit over the festive period.
Mrs. David Brockway hosted Christmas dinner with a cake baked in Glasgow Scotland and sent by Donald McLain who came from Scotland last year. The cake’s origin connects to Brockways through a Glasgow birth tie in the family. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. A W Jacobs and Mrs. A D Butler.
New York reports Dr Frederick A Cook Arctic explorer who vanished amid mystery shaved his mustache and fled to Europe in disguise using the name Frederick Hunter. Charles Wake, long time friend, releases the statement and notes Cook last contacted from Lisbon asking for Mrs Cook and his polar records.
A modest tombstone in Pritchett cemetery declares the deceased was talked to death by friends reflecting on domestic advice from neighbor women. The item notes this odd epitaph as the county earns a place in a quirky hall of fame. Rev J J Lace presided at two weddings Friday night at the parsonage: Marcus Buxton of Silver Plume wed Grace Tregoning of Greeley, and Clarence Richmond of Windsor wed Lillie Bainbridge of Gas City.
Five million dollars worth of Greeley Poudre Irrigation bonds have been disposed of to Duke M Farson Co brokers of Chicago. The sale followed litigation between stockholders and Lar amie Poudre Reservoir Irrigation firm and involved agents from the Chicago firm evaluating the bonds as best possible. The deal advances the companys projects and promises progress for northern county irrigation plans.
The thirty fifth annual Weld county teachers convention opens in Denver this week with 1300 members in attendance. The educational council met at the high school for 10 o clock to discuss proposed Colorado school legislation. The program promises papers of great interest and is regarded as among the best in the association's history drawing growing turnout and value to the profession.
Romantic theatre notices celebrate Louis James returning to Shakespeare with Henry VIII at the Opera House this Friday. James stars as Wolsey with Aphie James as Queen Kathrine, supported by a strong cast and lavish scenery promising a grand staging.

Mrs. Hannah Dawley died on Christmas Day at her Greeley home. She was 86 and long a resident of the city. Her husband passed away twenty years ago. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 on Tuesday afternoon at her home conducted by Rev. Mr. Berger.
A Christmas gathering at the country home of Mr. and Mrs. H. H. McConnell drew three McConnell families from Greeley. Despite sharing the name, none appeared related. they had roots in Ohio. The group included two McConnell couples with sons and enjoyed a turkey dinner.
The Phoenix Bakery awarded prizes to the top three solvers who cut distributed diagrams into five equal parts. Mrs Wilson Turner won first prize, fifty loaves. Mrs T J Gibbeon won second, thirty loaves. Mrs B Woodcock won third, twenty loaves.
A masquerade ball was held at convention hall Friday night drawing a large crowd and marking one of the Christmas season’s most enjoyable events with festive spirit and participation.
The Greeley-Poudre Irrigation Co and the Lara mie Poudre Reservoir and Irrigation Co exchange bonds and control multiple canals and reservoirs. A $5 million bond issue was authorized to fund water contracts with the Laramie Poudre firm, with bonds sold widely. Litigation over ditch use led to substitutions of party names. The bond sale promises immediate labor and tunnel work with spring steam shovel startup.
Windsor notes Miss Elsie Wilson chosen maid of honor at the Denver Apple Show to be held January 3 to 8, 1910. The contest ended Saturday night with Wilson winning by 180 votes after a close race with Miss Elsa Laypourn. She and the other maids will be entertained at the Albany hotel during their Denver visit.
A small blaze at R. F. Shannon's Hazelton Ranch on Christmas Eve started by a stove left in a frostproof potato cellar. The overheated stove damaged the cellar significantly before it was extinguished.
John Foster and Miss Myrtle Day of Greeley were married Christmas morning at the Presbyterian manse. Rev R J Hunter pastor of the Presbyterian church performed the ceremony. The couple will reside on a Bliss ranch in Pleasant Valley.
Ault, Dec. 27 Miss Mabel liss of Boulder resigns as a teacher. The resignation takes effect at the start of the year and a replacement has not yet been hired.
Four generations gathered at O. J. White's home in Ault for a Christmas dinner on Sunday. Mrs. White's father, Mr. Arms, was the oldest present, and despite his age he remained active and cheerful throughout the day.
