After deliberation the school board and teachers decided to continue classes for one more week before the holiday. Pupils, especially in the high school, urged starting vacation Monday, but the request was overruled. School will close December 24 for holiday break.
Doud of the Greeley Cement Tile company brings quiet title action against Mercantile Trust of New York over land in Weld county part of Union Pacific holdings. The case traces to a 1900s mortgage after Evans and Evans acquired Crow Creek lands from UP, with EPs involved in prior circuit court proceedings.
Baton Dec 18 The annual bazaar by the Ladies Aid Society at the Methodist church drew large crowds and raised over $80 for church needs. Booths featured include subscription by Mesdames Frank Eckhardt and Alonzo Ward, fancy by Mesdames W H Rees and Roberts, and other stalls run by local ladies.
Two divorce cases set in district court this afternoon. John Yarbrough sues May Yarbrough for desertion, represented by Joseph Ewfe. Eli Furgeson of Evana faces divorce suit, also represented by Ewfe.
The region faced a frigid night with temperatures reported around 14 to 18 degrees in Weld county and further south. Locals Ernest Wallace, Miss Winifred Mason, and others return from colleges for the holiday break while several residents recover from hospital stays.

In a crowded Armory game the Greeley Arrows upset the University of Colorado 40 to 35. The first half ended 28 to 9 as the Arrows stunned Colorado with speed and teamwork. Taylor paced Colorado in the second half but Hamnett and McCreery kept the Arrows ahead as fans cheered the likely state champion.
Four boys, all under 13, argued whether corporal punishment is justifiable in schools at Collins school house. The affirmative led by Lowell Mondt and Charley Suthard won the judges over, while Hobart and George Ball defended sparing the rod. Judges were Mrs. John Lewson, John Bayes, and Max Crain.
The Unity club of Denver decided to affiliate with the National League of Unitarians, with President Taft as honorary president. Twenty attended a dinner at Shirley hotel before formalizing the constitution and by-laws. Starting January 4, eight lectures will be given on alternate Sunday evenings at Unity church by prominent local attorneys and scientists.
Enos A Mills plans a statewide beaver essay prize to boost interest in the animal and its value. He notes beavers aid soil water retention and regulate mountain stream flow, and supports Estes Park becoming a national park with congressional backing likely from Senator Duggenheim and Representative Taylor. Mills returned from Chicago with a positive reception for his book Wild Life on the Rockies.
Colonel C. P. Kemmerer, after twenty two years as chief stock auctioneer, retires and disposes of his interests. George W. Beeten of Fort Lupton will run the business with J. B. Gordon as partner, forming Gordon and Beeten. Gordon has partnered with Kemmerer for ten years and is known for fair dealing.
The Delta Phi Omega sorority held a jolly Christmas dinner Thursday evening at the sorority house on 1049 Fourteenth Street before the holiday vacation. Fourteen girls who reside there attended, sharing popcorn, candy making, and stockings hanging after the turkey meal.

After months of waiting the jury returned a not guilty verdict in the Leftwich subornation of perjury case. Leftwich greeted jurors and his wife praised attorney Harry Haynes for the defense as a crowd filled the courtroom.
The case went to the jury at 3 yesterday afternoon as spectators stayed for a speedy decision. By about 5, jury foreman reported a verdict to Constable Camp, it was given to Judge George Allen and read. One ballot had been taken after retirement.
H. J. Brown, described as an amateur in banking, tried to pass a $30 check at Condon Mercantile. The teller noted the odd numbered check 646 and held it. The check drawn on a Greeley bank lacked funds, and Brown vanished. police have pursued him since morning.
T. J. Van Hoover district organizer for the Woodmen of the World has spent several days inspecting the local lodge. The lodge is described as prosperous and a large membership drive is planned to recruit new members.
Mrs Mary West wife of Henry T West celebrated her 85th birthday quietly Friday at her home. She received congratulatory letter and flowers from the Union Colony Pioneer society and remains in her usual health and active in housekeeping and as a member of the W C.
Mrs. I. O. Stephens of Salt Lake City will visit her grandparents Mr. and Mrs. G O Stevens in town through Christmas then move to Denver to join the Art Moulding company of Salt Lake City, which has opened a Denver branch.
Will Sawyer of Pleasant Valley traveled to Denver after learning of his cousin H. C. Hill being struck by a car and killed. Denver papers had reported the incident prominently at the time.
Miss Edith Draper arrived from Bracewell Friday to spend Sunday with local friends in Greeley.

A Union Pacific representative visited Eaton Friday to study a new town ordinance requiring all streets to be graveled at property owners' expense. The railroad will be obligated to gravel its crossings like other landholders. The visit is seen as an inspection of the ordinance and street grades.
