Empire Lumber mill destroyed by fire in Empire Michigan
Empire Michigan August 31 The Empire Lumber company plant was wiped out by fire last night destroying the saw mill car shops blacksmith shop and several logging cars. Loss estimated at not less than 60000 with about 25000 insured. Fire started about 11 pm and was fanned by strong winds preventing effective water attack. The mill owned by T Wilce Lumber of Chicago was under E R Daily management. Rebuilding likely due to two million feet of timber on hand and several years supply remaining. mill has long been a major employer and a key Empire industry.

Death Impacts Hainstock Home in Kingsley Tragedy
Within a week death touched the Hainstock family in Kingsley as Mrs. Mainstock’s young daughter, aged 7, died after a brief illness on August 29. The father and grandmother also passed away within hours of each other on Monday. The child will be buried at South Boardman Friday with arrangements by H. L. Carter.
