Knights of Pythias plan grand lodge campment lodging drive

Preparations for the grand lodge and uniform campment on October 2 3 4 are underway with plans to house visiting delegates in Traverse City due to limited hotel space. A lodging price of 75 cents per night is set. volunteers are urged to host delegates and notify J Mo Bhileslee early.

The Woman's Relief Corps Grange gathering featured a large attendance and a strong program. State president Mrs. Wate Redner praised W.R.C. efforts at Andersonville prison and outlined plans to preserve sites like Providence Spring and burial grounds. The group supports memorials at Appomattox and emphasizes the study of patriotism in schools. The event closed with “America” sung by all.

Death of James Sullivan at Stanck and Sullivan meat market

Mill Accident At Kingsley Injures Two Workers

An upstate mill four miles east of Kingsley overheated causing the governor to race. Engineer Jameson failed to notice the danger as belts snapped and a pulley flew apart injuring sawyer O. J. Pitcher and possibly harming Alex Matthews. Eight workers were struck by debris. Jameson was slightly deaf and may have contributed to the incident. Separately, jurors for the coming circuit court term were drawn, listing names across multiple townships.

Rev George Lockhart Delivers Pleasing Baptist Sermon

Hindse Builders Ladies Aid Bank Offering Meeting Notes

The Hindse Builders young ladies foreign mission society held its annual bank offering in the church committee rooms Tuesday. The two rooms were attractively decorated with white festoons red ribbons and slides. The treasurers report showed funds on hand after paying the 200 annual pledge to the American Board. Officers for the coming year were elected: President Mrs J W Patehin Vice President Mrs J Sherman Secretary Miss Ruth Rumsey Treasurer Mrs Hobl Edwards. Harry Hines bought a Traverse City Cup boat and mounts a four and a half horsepower four cycle engine of his own design. He has built a premier pleasure craft expected to lead its class. Hines operates a bay shore shop near Cirter's mul where he has worked through the summer on the engine and craft.

Stites Injured in Night Driving Accident Near Williamsbar

In a dark rural road incident moving from the Stites residence toward Rev Yost a horse reared overturned the buggy injuring Mrs. Stites internally with possible broken ribs. Mr. Stites was knocked senseless but survived. both were cared for by a physician and moved home on a stretcher. Mrs. Stites remained in serious condition the following morning. Also reported is the death of Frederick Reveldt of Keswick aged 70 after residing in Leelanau county for fifty years. His family includes daughter Lena Revel of Traverse City and several others. funeral set for Friday at Suttons Bay Congregational church with burial in Keswick cemetery.

South Side Lumber plans large expansion and new yards

The South Side Lumber company considers major improvements to handle growing business. They purchased a strip of land on We Pere Marquette railroad for lumber yards and a sineail. Current yard capacity is inadequate. they will cut more small timber and expand employment from about seventy men to a larger force as output increases.

Pioneering Resident Dwight Brewer Dies in Bed

Oldest Pioneer John Hulett Dies in Kingsley Home

Kingsley Sept 12 John Hulett died at his son's home after a long life marked by early arrival in the region in 1Su8 and extensive hunts and trapping. Native of northern New York he was among the county’s oldest settlers. Surviving are his two families including six sons and three daughters. oldest son Juba Hidett Jr is noted.

Drowned Youth at Pearl Jake Tragedy

Earl Huff 16 years old drowned while bathing at Pearl Jake. In shallow water companions tried to save him but conditions prevented rescue. The incident occurred in Bengie county near a local beach. Relatives believe timely help could have saved the boy.
