Pioneer George Weidner Dies in Summit City Home

George Weidner a prosperous farmer and longtime Grand Traverse region resident died at his Summit City home at 8 20 Sunday night. He leaves beside his widow eight children four sons Join Traverse City George W Cadillac Henry and Edward c Montana and four daughters Mrs Clara Jear Mrs J Hogeland Mrs E J Noble and Mrs C Iu Howard.

Memorial services for veterans march to Asbury church

G A R Post No 18 and W A C Spanish War Veterans and wives, marching in full dress, attended a morning service at Asbury Methodist church. Rev W J Goates delivered a fitting sermon amid flags and flowers with special music, creating a scene of honor for two wars.

Lightning hits barn in Williamsburg fire

An early morning thunderstorm around 6:50 struck the Almond Pierce barn in Williamsburg, burning it to the ground with tools and farm implements lost. Horses and cows were saved, and telephone wires suffered considerable damage in the village.

Hot Weather Coming Across Nation This Week

Washington reports hot weather is expected across the eastern two thirds of the country next week. The Weather Bureau bulletin says cooler conditions will reach the northwest by Thursday and move into the middle west by week’s end. Low pressure persists with showers in the northwest and a defined storm area spreading to the middle west midweek.

The annual convention of the C. E. Society for the eleventh district ended Sunday evening at the Disciples church after three days. Day sessions were at the Friends church and evening meetings at the Church of Christ. Attendees found the gatherings worthwhile.

Senators Mull for Earlier Senate Adjournment This Week

Washington May 27 Longer daily sessions will start this week to speed legislation and push adjournment. Republicans Lodge and Smoot aim to close by late July, while Democratic leaders seek adjournment by June 15. Many senators doubt early adjournment and push curtailing debate and night sessions to expedite spending bills.
