Morning Light Over Lake and River Tales of Love and Invention

A montage of poetic morning scenes over a misty lake and shaded forest contrasts with a domestic tale of artists and writers at a rural retreat where romance blooms after a moonlit rescue. Interleaved are stories of Letty More and Clem Darrel’s reconciliation, and a feature on early American women inventors highlighted by Mary Kies and others with patent histories.

Hat Wearing in Church Through the Centuries

The article notes that sixteenth and seventeenth century Protestants wore hats in church on the Continent and in England. Pepys records a French Savoy clergyman preaching with his hat off in 1662, while some sang Psalms with hats removed and readers kept heads covered. The practice waned after the Restoration, revived by William III, who stayed bareheaded during prayers but wore a hat for sermons, with a late surviving example in Truro church in 1809.

Smallest Sailing Yacht Built by Beverly Farms Boys

Two boys named Connelley of Beverly Farms Massachusetts own the smallest sailing yacht in the world. The Zuleika is under five feet long, draws a few inches of water, and can be carried with mast removed. It holds one sailor who must stay in place, yet it sails two to three miles and has beaten larger craft in several races on the bay.
