On Christmas day Ward W. Bennett surfman No. 2 at Charlevoix life saving station rescued 11 year old Harry Tobin who skated into Glenlake channel. Bennett leaped into freezing roiled water after the boy submerged thrice, rolled with ice and delayed rescue, then used a rope and fellow surfmen to pull the boy to safety. The rescued lad recovered after hours of revival efforts. The act was praised as proof of brave government life saving crews.
