Brave Ward Bennett Saves 11 Year Old From Ice Channel

On Christmas day Ward W. Bennett surfman No. 2 at Charlevoix life saving station rescued 11 year old Harry Tobin who skated into Glenlake channel. Bennett leaped into freezing roiled water after the boy submerged thrice, rolled with ice and delayed rescue, then used a rope and fellow surfmen to pull the boy to safety. The rescued lad recovered after hours of revival efforts. The act was praised as proof of brave government life saving crews.

Arkansas Growth Shown In Southwest Advance Fivefold Population Rise

Lite Rock Arkansas reports unprecedented regional expansion for twenty five years ending this month. Little Rock grows toward metropolis status with population fivefold gain while November clearing house totals exceed 3.5 million and yearly clearings near 70 million, up nearly 30 percent from last year. Agricultural output valued at 210 million, lumber at 180 million, state property value over 560 million, fruit and berry crops up to 22 million. Washington county holds the nation’s largest apple orchard count at over 1 500 000 trees.

Thompson Exalted Ruler Honors Doctor Before Leaving City

At a Traverse City lodge meeting Exalted Ruler H O Joynt announced serious charges against a prominent member. Dr Thompson, first Exalted Ruler of the lodge, received a sealskin cap and a gold mounted umbrella as a testimonial to his service. He plans to move to Grand Rapids to continue his medical practice after a beefsteak supper following the initiatory work.

In the dining room, a large number of members attended the event, enjoying the meal and socializing. The atmosphere was lively as attendees discussed upcoming activities and group matters.

The marriage of Mrs. Virginia Lull and Dan E. Carter of Traverse City Michigan occurred Monday at the bride's mother's home in Chicago. The couple will winter in Mobile and New Orleans then return to Traverse City in the spring. Christmas program and society notes from Wylie Interlochen

In Wylie and Interlochen a Christmas program with songs recitations and dialogues was held in the town hall directed by Mrs S H Bates with a planning committee from Wylie and Interlochen. Santa visited and distributed presents to children as attendees and news from local families followed alongside the Fraternal Mystic Circle election of officers and a note on Mr Buchman resigning from American Drug Store.

Fraulk K Morford and Cora May White united in marriage at the bride’s home Christmas Day. Rev E W Wood officiated before about twenty guests including Mr and Mrs Jesse Johnson Mr and Mrs Woodruff of Mesick and Mr and Mrs McLaughlin and Miss Ghitys McLaughlin of Thompsonville. A pyramid cake and a post ceremony reception followed. The couple will reside in Interlochen where Morford is the night operator.
