The Grand Traverse County Board of Supervisors orders a countywide ballot election on April 1, 1912, to decide whether liquor manufacture and traffic should be prohibited. The two ballot forms present Yes or No options, with voting rules, registration, and poll procedures aligned to township election standards.
Washington December 18 Taft formally notified Russia that the treaty of 18s% under which Russia has excluded Jewish American citizens will be abrogated on December 31 1912. The action took the matter out of Congress and forestalled Senate action on the Sulzer resolution. News of the protest created a sensation as cabinet members were summoned to the White House to discuss the issue. The Sulzer resolution passed 200 to 1 with Malloy of New York the sole dissenter. The president’s action followed a conference with Senators Rayner Burton and Alec Gumber.
Mexico City reports another uprising as martial law looms and the government hunts General Reyes, the revolt’s alleged head. A plot to assassinate Madero surfaced today while Chihuahuan dispatches note Diaz may be urged to return to his homeland, via De La Barra and Italian envoys.
