A Lansing report says Engineer Finley will urge a roughly 160 million boost in iron mine valuations, lifting state iron property from about 25 million to 124 million. Mr and Mrs Frank Birdsall learned from Mr and Mrs G B Walker that their son Angus Walker and his young sister died in a Wednesday collision when a train at Vandalia NL struck their car. Read Carmax, a chauffeur for the Welberg, also perished. The car was wrecked and hurled over a hundred feet. Walker clutched the steering wheel as the vehicle split apart. Mrs Walker and Mrs Birdsall are sisters and were returning from a visit when the crash happened.

Four men allegedly pursue and shoot birds from launches as sport, nearly striking local resident Conklin. Law will be enforced with a lakefront watch to catch violators. Past incidents at the same site show enforcement is renewed.
Wharton Plummer Jr. nearly drowned Sunday at Lake Leelanau while diving from a boat near W H Arms cottage. His mother’s screams drew B J Ohmer of Wichita to rescue him, followed by Clarence Grelick arriving in a boat. The two lifted the unconscious youth, restoratives revived him within an hour, and he recovered fully. Ohmer, Civil War veteran, swam to safety and aided in the save.
About 35,000 packages of fruit moved from the twin cities by boat and rail last night. Graham & Morton carried 20,000 packages, Benton Transit five thousand, and five refrigerator cars were used by Michigan Central. Warm weather ripening fruit rapidly, interurban banner loads continue. Archbishop Falconio announced a cablegram from Cardinal Merry Del Val stating Pope Pius has named Bishop John James Kean of Cheyenne to the archbishopric of Dubuque and Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Shrembs of Grand Rapids to lead the new Diocese of Te Jedo.
Judge George W. Curtis presided as Flenry Blackman sues the Pere Marquette railroad for 25 dollars over a yellow and white dog lost during transit from Traverse City to Elk Rapids. The railroad asked for a two week delay, delaying the hearing to Friday August 25.

Fort Wayne reports confirm four dead and about forty injured when the Pennsylvania eighteen hour train from Chicago to New York derailed near the city. The wreck involved two engines and the baggage car smoker bunk and two sleepers overturning. Names of the dead include freight engineer W A Arrick and flyer engineer Peter Malone with fireman W Criegh among the others.
Mrs Kate Craig formerly Miss Kate Wood of this city died Saturday at Sault Ste. Marie hospital after an appendicitis operation. She was 47, leaves three children Mabel Marjorie Claude, and sisters and brothers. Funeral services will be from the Wood home this afternoon at 2:30.
Washington August 12 a senate foreign relations committee report favored ratification of the arbitration treaties with Great Britain and France with an amendment. Mrs. Collins Shillings forty years a Traverse City resident died Friday night at her daughter’s home in Holland. Her husband had died years earlier and she lived with her daughter since. Daughters include Mrs. M. Stitt near Bowers Harbor and Mrs. George of Petoskey. Funeral services were held Sunday at Hughes undertaking rooms with Rev Demas Cochlin officiating. Alexander Peach aged 65 died at Bowhall hospital after a lengthy illness. He lived in the Grand Traverse region, recently on a farm near Grawn, and was a respected farmer and longtime member of I. C. O. F. lodge No. 200. Survived by three daughters Mrs. Ingersoll, Miss Ethel Peach, Mrs. H. L. Haines. two brothers J. D. and Seymour Peach. a sister Mrs. Robt Walcott.
