Two Boys Drown In Bay After Frail Box Raft Sinks

Manley Wilson aged 14 and Malin Reich aged 10 disappeared with a frail wooden box raft while gathering kindling along Garfield avenue bay. Their bodies were found about 7:30 pm after searchers followed a trail of clues from shore to water. They left home in the morning wearing varied clothing, planned to tow the box along the shore, but the craft sank in shallow water forcing both boys under. Police and volunteers recovered the bodies, which were prepared for burial after funerals at their homes on Wednesday.

Large funeral held from St Marys church Hannah with Father Kittman officiating. More than 100 carriages escorted the procession to the cemetery. Six young ladies served as pallbearers and fourteen white dressed girls were honorary bearers. Floral tributes reflected wide esteem.

George W. Emmons aged 88, the first white settler within St. Johns corporate limits, died after a long illness. One of the founders of the St. Johns state bank, he leaves a wife and four children.

Miss Clara Novak daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Novak wed Anton Prasil son of Mrs. Catherine Prasil on South Union street. Sunday School Rally Week Program Promises County Event

Guy White of two miles from Walled Lake died from injuries suffered while working with a threshing crew. He was crushed after the separator lurched when the engine swung the machine, striking a water tank and causing internal injuries and hemorrhages.

Tribune Sues Western Michigan Development Bureau Over Ad Bill

The Chicago Tribune company through its attorney Curtis D. Alway sues in circuit court for 1000 dollars claimed for advertising for the land show held in Chicago last fall. The larger amount exceeds the original bill for a full page ad in September promoting Michigan Day at the exhibition. Payment was disputed at the time, as the ad was for the land show and not believed to benefit the bureau.

Farewell reception for Chas. M. Pease before Talladega call

Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Pease hosted a Tuesday farewell at Webster Street for their son Chas. M. Pease who departs for Talladega Alabama to preach. Guests enjoyed games, music by Tausie, solos by Misses Turner Ayres Dobson Larkins Bowen, and an orchestra led by Wallace Campbell. Ice cream and cake followed as good wishes were offered for a safe journey and year ahead.
