Chicago April 20 A bear run drives May wheat to a weak close as Patten the so called Wheat King is forced to buy large quantities on a steady market. He appears haggard and a crash is feared as enormous volumes move despite his efforts. The market ends unsettled with May wheat at 1.224 percent.
Lansing April 21 The house committee hustles to complete the home ride bill and report it today. They agree to keep the bonding limit as in the Hally bill. Differences exist but are expected to be resolved in floor debate as the measure moves toward the senate.
Northport Mason Lodge dedicated its hall last night marking the completion of services. Grand Master Pierbert Montague assisted by EL EB White and BL oG Hellanma attended with Master A B Bordeaux presiding. A banquet followed. EE White hosted visiting Masons and local members. Northport lodge has about 75 members and serves Leclanau County as its only Masonic lodge.
Mrs Joanna Elizabeth Hooker died this morning at her daughter Mrs Flomer Snyder's home 112 East Twelfth Street. She was 76 years old.
Archie Bannatyne’s trial was transferred from Grand Traverse to Isabella County. Judge Chittenden sent the case to the Twenty first circuit, while other proceedings include Aaron Rose and Lila Miller pleas, Avery Nostrand and Minnie Rose not guilty, James Ryder guilty with a $50 fine, and a divorce granted to Cole Pine from Floyd Pine for cruelty. Trial will be in Mt Pleasant.

J C Van Waricom, longtime postmaster of a Northern Michigan fourth class office, resigns due to poor health after 12 years of service. He led a modern, efficient office with spotless records, no lost money orders, and strict adherence to postal rules. A Civil Service exam to fill the vacancy is set for May 22 in Fort Frankfort, and the department notes he could have remained longer if health permitted.
Ed Corbett reports a valuable horse lost near Cedar Run on Monday. A city doctor was summoned but the horse died before arrival due to gas buildup causing stomach rupture. The animal valued at about $209.
Julius Beers has returned to Cleveland after spending several months abroad in Egypt and the Holy Land. He was met at the station by his mother Mrs. C. M. Beers and aunt Mrs. Elsie Hannah. He described a delightful journey and many distant peoples and places.
C L Rood of Terra Haute and W H Davis of Louisville inspected the Neal-ta-wanta resort property in Traverse City yesterday. They arranged numerous improvements and plan to open June 15 with many bookings for the season. Davis, connected with the Louisville Times advertising department, brings hotel experience.
Alexander Ferguson, an inmate from Charlevoix county, killed Isaac Fuller from Oceana county and was this morning moved to Ionia by Robert Burns. Ferguson will be confined in the Northern Michigan asylum there for the criminal insane.
