Seven railroad workers died when Norfolk express train No 49 crashed into two locomotives in Delmar yards early today. A messenger’s body remained in the debris as relatives of homecoming sailors mourn the disaster. All victims were trainmen. no passengers were fatally hurt.
Ellsworth Hale former paying teller at Hirst National bank was arrested on embezzlement charges totaling about 5800 dollars. The charge stemming from a three and a half year period. Hale appeared before United States Commissioner Nerlinger, waived exam, and posted 2500 dollar bail to await March term in Grand Rapids. Hale, once trusted, offered to repay but provided little detail. The case drew sympathy from residents who knew him as a young man of good repute who later pursued show business dreams.
City officials met in a brief session with all aldermen present. A petition by freeman Pierce to move a small store from lot 10, biocis 8, Hannah Lay & Co. addition was granted. Frank Joslin chief electrician for Antrim Light and Power was seriously injured Saturday afternoon when he fell twenty feet from a telephone pole striking his left arm. The muscles and tendons were severely torn and the arm swelled to three times its size. Doctors uncertain if the bone is broken. Joslin will be unable to work for some time. William O'Brien faced a larceny charge for stealing a carriage blanket, before Judge Nerlinger Saturday night. O'Brien pleaded not guilty and bail set at fifty dollars.
Fire alarms sent to the engine house early Monday morning. The blaze started in a residence at 500 North Spruce Street, owned by Dr. Post of St Johns, but interior was saved by hard work despite an early fire. Arson is suspected and investigators are probing the cause.
The Hannenberg school in Bineham township Lessian county begins Saturday sessions as teacher Cl J Cook seeks pro baseball tryout with Lansing. He overstretched his term, delaying reporting. now the board agrees Saturday teaching while the season ends. Meanwhile a local basket factory expands with new machinery and 20 more workers.
Old Point Comfort Va February 22 President Roosevelt greeted the returning battleship fleet aboard the Mayflower after a voyage circling the globe. He praised the crews for flawless conduct, high efficiency, and the fleet's impact on the nation's standing among nations. A reception for officers was planned with Secretary of the Navy Newberry in attendance.
A board decision allows Mr Cook to teach on Saturday mornings. He is described as a capable ball player and is expected to contribute more to the Faster Company than in prior play.

Old Point Comfort February 22 The Atlantic Fleet arrives after a record round-the-world voyage greeted by guns and whistles. President Roosevelt and Secretary Newberry review the ships aboard the Mayflower as Admiral Sperry and officers receive the commander in chief. The fleet forms in two columns off Fort Monroe, with ships including Connecticut Louisiana Rhode Island Maine New Hampshire Mississippi Idaho and more. After a formal reception the Mayflower carries the president back to Washington while sailors rush ashore to greet families and prepare for docking and repairs. The ships covered about 2 227 miles, nearly twice the globe around journey, before docking.
