Morton Salt Company reports progress on a new mine shaft drilling six of eight holes in the second pre grouting series. Project Manager Nick Krpan and Superintendent Jack Spry say drilling is faster, sealing many ground crevices. a third series will test sealing effectiveness with about 200 tons of cement used so far.

Mrs. Clara MceMakin and Frank L Churchwell retire from Morton after long service at Grand Saline plant. Churchwell, electrician, began as a nine laborer in 1933 and served as union local president and helped found the Salt Employees Federal Credit Union. he and his wife Lottie have four children and 13 grandchildren. McMakin, a Packaging Department operator since 1940, plans garden and travel with husband Shan. they have three children and eight grandchildren.

Churches Sponsor Youth Entertainment At Saturday Night

Area churches will sponsor youth entertainment this Saturday at 7 o'clock in the elementary cafeteria. Refreshments will be available from 7 to 7 30, followed by a screening of the Moody Bible Institute film The God of Cream. Youth Camp at Lake Lavon Baptists Camp

A group of youths aged 9 through 18 will leave Main Street Baptist Church by bus at 8 o clock Monday morning to attend the annual Youth Camp at Lake Lavon Baptist Encampment June 29 to July 2. Rev. Dan Hubbell and David Garrett will lead staff from Grand Saline. Hubbel is director, Garrett music director. Other area staff include Rev. Charles Richardson of First Baptist Canton as Camp Pastor and Rev. Ellis Morrison of Lone Oak teaching a Bible class. About 300 to 400 are expected to attend this year.

Wounded Vietnam PFC Billy Hall Visited in Guam Hospital

Private Billy Ray Hall, a four month Vietnam veteran, is listed as a patient at the U S Naval Hospital in Guam after wounds received in Vietnam. He entered service in June 1968. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Alvin Jackson and his wife is Katie Gore of Fruitvale.

Morton Salt Company updates sign and expansion plans

A familiar Morton Salt Company sign at the Grand Saline plant has been replaced with a new lamplike plastic design marking Morton International division. The firm claims inexhaustible local salt supply, with a 50 car expansion area laid out northeast of the existing level. The company recently merged with Norwich Pharmacal Company and now produces drugs and other products through Morton Chemical and Morton Quality Products.

Irma Duke Receives BA Degree at North Texas State
