Lions Install Darby as Club President at Sweetheart Event

Lions and wives attended Tuesday night ceremonies in which Galloway Darby was installed as club president for the coming year. International Councillor Lion Berdernie Gak offered remarks, praising the group and stressing support for new officers. Awards and recognitions went to J. E. Persons, C. E. Carvel, Wallace Ward, Ray Bootnell, and John A. Nelson, with outgoing president Lion Nelson receiving a meritorious service certificate from District Governor Harry Murchi. A steak supper followed at the Ranch Motel Cafe.

Gospel Meeting Planned in Wentworth Church of Christ

Grand Saline Baptist Church to Build New Educational Wing

Grand Saline church members and volunteers begin a new educational building project joining the existing brick structure. Rev Eldon Crump notes the 44 by 40 foot addition will house seven classrooms and an assembly room, built with volunteer labor for long term use. An Eastern Star installation is planned for Friday night as part of community events.

Fund Dinner in Fire Hall Profits Add to Activity Fund

Five hundred people attended a fund dinner at the Fire Hall on Saturday to support the Youth Summer program. Local businesses donated beef roast bread icing chairs and hall usage while townspeople contributed pies cakes sandwiches and other foods. A candy stick weighing 16 pounds 11 ounces raised over 8 dollars and the activity fund totaled 9255.35 after the event.

Summer 4H Camps Highlight District Gatherings

The district 4H camps run June 17 to 19 at Lake Trinidad and nearby sites with attendees Mildred Manley KaSaundra Side Nancy Morris and ShirlEy Griffin named. Summer program expands reach for young swimmers

The Summer Activity program led by John Wheeler at Myrtle Spring opened with 7 children swimming Monday and 32 beginners registered. Wheeler seeks more adult volunteers and car-based transportation coordination as parents offer rides, while clarifying schedule for Mondays and Thursdays swimming and afternoon tennis for older youths.
