Hugo Carpenter registers his last post office sales after thirty years as Silver Lake postmaster. The Silver Lake office will close December 31 in an economy move saving about $2,000 annually. Carpenter runs a general store since 1925, farms 1 325 acres, raises his own feed, and plans to continue store farming and ranching. He is a 32nd degree Mason, Wood County Electric Cooperative director, Soil Conservation District co operator, and holds a Texas Army commission as Colonel.

Southwestern Debuts Hi-Line Mobile Home With Split Front Kitchen
Southwestern Mobile Homes unveils the Hi-Line, a 38 to 43 foot model with a front end kitchen separated from living areas by a split level design. The line, shown in New Orleans on December 1, ships in one and two bedroom formats and joins existing models. The Grand Saline Lions and guests gathered for their annual Christmas party on December 20. Members hung a $1 ornament each on the club tree to support projects such as eye glasses and donations to the Kerrville Crippled Children Home.
