Public notice announces fall stock purchase before war price hikes with unchanged location and low prices. The display includes suits for men and boys, pants, hats, trunks, hose, and gingham. Miss Irene Evans leads the millinery department, bringing experience from a large wholesale millinery house in the Southwest.
Col J N Adair aged 78 died at his Jean home after illness. Born Franklin County Tennessee December 25 1836 he moved to Texas in 1854 married Frances B Mayes in 1860. Survived by three of eight children E W Adair F L Adair and Mrs W T Finch. Funeral held at Mrs W T Finch home conducted by Rev James B Hall and burial in Oak Grove beside Masonic Lodge member for 40 years.
There will be no band concert tomorrow night. The final free concert of the year takes place a week from tomorrow on the 25th at the band stand.
J L Heighton reports a sample of red top maize from Zack Wyatt's field north of town. The large heads show full grains and heavy weight, supporting dry farming experts that maize can be a reliable feed crop even in dry years. Stock and poultry fatten well on this grain.

Henry Kelley a prosperous farmer west of town was found semi conscious in the Graham gin wood yard after his wagon passed over him. Doctors believe a stroke caused him to fall from the wagon and be run over. he remains in critical condition as family and physician monitor his injuries.
Judge Edgar Scurry leads the District Court after a Monday convening with Leslie B. Humphrey as district attorney and O. H. Brown as sheriff. The grand jury was empaneled with D. G. Mugg foreman and twelve members, returning six indictments three felonies and three misdemeanors before adjournment.
Last Monday brought the largest crowd since early summer for Trades Day in town though not the biggest ever or as large as expected. Merchants worked hard with little time to eat while people from surrounding country bought goods. Trading on the streets was slower than usual. The next Trades Day is planned for October 12 with hope of a record crowd.
The county clerk lists one month of births including a boy for Biggers in Texas and boys for Saunders, Peacock, Stricklan, Evans, and Branum with girls for Foster and Baker in Jean and Loving. Marriage licenses issued include Simmons Smith Hill Brandon Newman Cox Starnes Spurlock Bridges Brisco and Florence Griffin.
Revival services at the Methodist Church this week feature Rev. F. M. Neal preaching at 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. Brother Fred Poulter leads singing. The invitation is extended to all as sermons and solos are shared. J. Hah Bowman.
