Store announces fall stock bought before price rises from European war. Fall Shoes Pants Grown Pants Hats Suits and Trunks Hose and more. Millinery department reopens under Miss Irene Evans with trimming-room experience.
The Graham public schools announce opening on Monday September 7 with a teachers meeting September 5 at 9:30 in the superintendent’s office. Students in grades 1 2 4 5 and 6 assemble at 9 on Monday morning for classification duties, others in the study hall. Parents are urged to attend the opening.
Mr and Mrs Horace L Tidwell hosted a Thursday evening gathering in their new home from 8 50 to 11 30. Guests were served fruit punch in the dining room as Mrs B Tidwell attended them. Ten tables for progressive rock were set with hand painted Japanese score cards and graphanola music provided atmosphere. After five games sherbet and cake were served to about forty guests. Decor featured cut roses white pink and red and canna lilies.
Dan Orr and A. P. Stewart arrive after attending district and national Farmer's Union sessions in Fort Worth. The group advocates government aid and crop loans to farmers during the European war emergency. Orr warns South cotton acreage must shrink next year to avoid bankruptcy, proposing a graduate tax on cotton as a potential solution.
The district court will not convene until 1 30 p m on the second Monday the 14th of September. Jurors for this term are notified and will serve one week later than the first summons. The petit jury for the first week in September will be used the second week and the second week jury will serve the third. The docket this term is very light.
Tomorrow’s band concert begins at eight with a nine o clock close and possibly the last concert of the season depending on a band meeting next Tuesday night. New selections and two quartets headline the program likely to please attendees.
The article touts a major Trades Day in Graham drawing a large audience on the first day of a district court term. It notes the anthrax quarantine has been lifted allowing teams to travel to town and invites everyone to attend the event.
Prof J K Wester of Lubbock spent the first of the week in Graham seeking to interest locals in Sudana noted as well suited to the region. A former superintendent of public instruction and Graham summer normal organizer, Wester has held roles in Jack County politics, sheriff service, and journalism, now with Dee Turner Seed Co. in Lubbock.
Esq. E. E. Hall visited friends in Palo Pinto county last week. Mr. and Mrs. John George of Tank Valley traded with merchants this morning. Mrs. W. F. Melton and daughter left yesterday for Royse City after a month visiting her sister Mrs. N. F. McCain.
Mrs AS AL Stewart died last Saturday morning at 8 o clock at Beckham Sanitarian after years of declining health. Born April 12 1864 in Shelby County Texas she later lived in Cook and Young counties and near Barkley. Survived by husband and two children Byron Elmo and Inez Prideaux. Funeral at Markley cemetery Sunday evening conducted by Revs Noble and Me Cord.
J B Davidson and niaces Miss es Martin of Proffitt were in town today exchanging greetings and trade notes with local residents.
