A large workforce prepared Fair Park as Young County’s first fair opens for three days with auto and horse racing, airplane stunts, and free admission for children in the Friday parade. Businesses close. thousands expected to attend with ample free parking.
Rev J S Bates of Fort Worth preached at a Baptist church in Graham as rain kept worshippers away early in the week. A weekend rebound drew large crowds, with high school night drawing many students. Bates argued against evolution in a powerful sermon.
Mr and Mrs Henry Forest attended the funeral of Mrs G C Miller the mother of Mrs Forest held Tuesday in Jack County. Miller died at relatives home and had spent much time in Graham with her daughter she was about seventy years old.
Mr and Mrs Robert L Morrison and their young daughter returned Sunday from a visit to relatives in Sherman.
Hon Sidney Samuels of Fort Worth will deliver the memorial address at the Armistice Day service Sunday morning November 11 at the First Methodist church under the American Legion. The service begins at 11 oclock with a Legion color guard. Some Graham congregations will suspend services to attend. The Ligon Daniel Post extends a county wide invitation urging ex service families to attend and gold star parents to have special seats. Special music is planned.
After the rainy season paving of the square is resumed with a large force laying brick. The north half should be completed in days and the entire square within weeks. Work will then begin on the south side and extensions to surrounding streets are expected.
J L Edens runs a South Oak Street grocery and reports a Salt Creek pecan crop this year totaling about 2000 pounds valued at roughly 600 dollars. The crop includes many large nuts with most being medium size and thin shelled. The crop is a lucrative money maker praised by locals as a top county profit and a call to protect pecan trees.
Misses Bess and Zell Baynes entertained with a Halloween party at their Plum street home last Wednesday night October 31. Winners included Miss Willie George in an exciting contest. Participants enjoyed the Virginia reel while popcorn balls and apples were served to a long list of young attendees. The gathering continued past midnight as friends lingered before departing.
In Graham October rainfall reached 8.88 inches, the heaviest in two decades, while Wichita Falls logged 8.45 inches. The region’s generous moisture prompts experts to forecast a good wheat and barley crop, with farmers resuming cotton picking as prices hold above thirty cents and dry, frost-kissed mornings threaten tender vegetation.

Mr. Hugh Sherwood of Dallas was in the city Monday, visiting local residents and observing everyday business.
The Loving school Girls Club held a Halloween carnival last week with eight booths and sales raising funds to equip a demonstration kitchen for home economics. Although not enough money was raised yet, the club will continue efforts. Miss Blanche Harte Smith, county home demonstration agent, praised the club and its progress across the county.
Mrs Samantha Kirkland aged 58 died at her home four miles west of Ivan at 11 30 Monday night. She was survived by seven children Hettie Norton Lida Norton W F Cooney Cecil Eva Kirkland Ernest Elbert Kirkland all in the loan community. Funeral at South Prairie cemetery Tuesday at 4 o clock Rev Gilleland of Eliasville officiated with Graham mourners present.
The high school football team meets Bowie at Fair Park Friday morning right after the parade. Both squads are in fine condition and church officials predict this could be the season’s best game on local grounds.
Deputy Sheriff W J A Cooper resumes duties this week following a two weeks illness.
The Oil Cities Electric Company of Eastland has purchased the Graham Light and Power Company and assumed management November 1. L. D. Lovett becomes manager, Roy Miller stays as secretary. The new firm plans to maintain service and cut rates from 20 to 15 cents per kilowatt, with future improvements and a high line to Graham. C. L. Wood retires after years of ownership and good service.
Mr B E Flowers and Mr L F Mallow flew Flowers airplane through Bryson Jacksboro Jermyn Loving Jean Olney and Newcastle to promote the Young County Fair in Graham. The three day session begins today. Mallow handed out literature while enjoying his first airplane trip. The Shamrock Motor Company also distributed Chevrolet circulars. The flight covered the route in under two hours.
The county’s best teams meet Friday morning at the ball park after the parade. Kickoff is soon after 10 o’clock with both sides in good shape after a rain postponement. An expected crowd of 500 will attend as schools observe a holiday.
The Graham Hide and Produce Company started its turkey market Monday with Mr. Johnson reporting 1600 pounds bought on the first day. Turkeys fetch three to four dollars each as a large staff sorts and stores them for shipment to northern markets, with plans to buy all kinds of country produce and ship thousands of pounds in coming weeks.
Mr and Mrs Joe LeSage arrive Monday from Tampico Mexico where he manages LeSage Motor Company He plans to stay several weeks and will be joined by Bob who remains in Tampico while Joe visits in the state.
Mrs J D Gilliland and her young son Jimmie are visiting relatives and friends in Dallas.
The northeast square corner Driver building nears completion three stories high with first floor tenants L M Davis Drug Company and Pace Golden Jeweler. Stafford News Service and Wootten Reed oil offices occupy the square facing room. Roselyn Hotel and a north cafe space prepare to open complex with Mrs Barnes in charge.
The Nite Hawks bridge group met at Mrs. Joe Lee Matthews Tuesday evening. After five tables of play, Miss Ione Vogtsberger received the high score prize, an antique vase, with refreshments of hot salad, potato chips and coffee served to Mrs. James Akin and the listed guests.
Mr and Mrs M Garten left the first of the week for Hot Springs Arkansas where they will spend the winter in the warm climate.
