An April 1912 advertisement invites customers to visit Dependen Store for personal service and trusted sales staff. It claims best stock in Graham, prices lowered to meet hard times, and guarantees items are as represented. The ad lists millinery, oxford shoes for all ages, and new dress goods as products.
The two week revival at the Methodist Church concluded Sunday night. Evangelist Rev Huthesom impressed many by reaching older parishioners and uniting the church to work for the lost. Commencement at Graham High School set for Monday evening in the Baptist Church building with sermon by Rev J Hall Bowman on Sunday. Edgar McLendon Superintendent of Schools reports good crops and ample rain, amid townwide church invitation for unity.
The Priscilla Club enjoyed a Tuesday afternoon gathering at the home of Mrs K Graham with many members and guests present. Music by Mesdames Crabb and Norman accompanied stitching and refreshments of sherbet and cake. Guests included Mae Voules W D Norman E S Graham J E Norris and others. The next meeting will be with Mrs Gaines B Hall.
The School Board has added a teacher to the High School. Miss Fanny Bye Rogers is elected to head the Latin department. A Southwestern University graduate with four years of successful teaching, she comes well recommended and will be a valuable addition to the staff.
Delbert Burkett eight, son of Mr and Mrs J S Burkett, died Friday evening. His body was brought to Graham and laid to rest at Oak Grove Cemetery Saturday May 18 at 2 pm. Officials extend sympathy. Local church reports show Methodist 305 present with 13 new pupils and offerings. Baptists 261. Chris Hans 215. Presbyterians 170 with respective offerings.
A Confederate Memorial Day service program at Oak Grove Cemetery features prayers, readings, addresses by Rev. Lindsey Dr. J. Hall Bowman and Dr. Duncan, music by the Firemen's Band, and a flower ceremony led by U D members. Also notices a sick relative, a Graham High School electrical demonstration, and a protracted Baptist meeting led by Dr. C R Taylor.
The Firemen's Band opens the season with a varied program at the bandstand in court house park tomorrow night from 8 to 10 30 PM. New members loosen the double piano parts while snappy marches and dreamy waltzes please the crowd. Refreshments will be served and grounds will be well lit.
At a Graham school board meeting Miss Ethel Rogers was re elected to teach English at Graham High School for another year. She has led the English Department for two years, earning high regard from pupils and patrons and ensuring continued quality in Graham schools.
The Baraca class of the First Baptist Church of Graham elected officers for six months at their May meeting. Mabry Short is President, Spencer Mayes Vice President, Eddie Jef fery Secretary, Eddie Mays Asst Secretary, Rex Cornish Press Reporter. Mr and Mrs J T Rickman returned from Waco where they attended Grand Lodges and were hosted by Dr Kenneth Aynesworth.
