The Dependon store invites customers to visit and meet experienced salespeople. They promise fair, represented items and satisfaction, noting better stock in Graham and lower prices during hard times. Millinery, oxford styles, and dress goods are advertised with a focus on value and back of the merchandise support.
A fire at about 2 am destroyed the Logan warehouse and its contents. The night watch spotted the blaze. firefighters arrived twelve minutes later but could not save the building. Losses include Logan estate building 250 dollars no insurance, Carter Grocer Co goods 500 dollars insured, R M Todd four pool tables appraised 800 dollars insured 400, Baker and Son goods 100 dollars no insurance.
George A. Cloud died in a Fort Worth sanatorium last Saturday night after an liver tumor. His remains were buried Monday at 10 o’clock in Oak Grove Cemetery by the Woodmen of the World, of which he was a member. He had been a leading stock farmer in the Proffitt country and leaves a wife and several children. He was active in the Methodist Church and helped lead the Proffitt organization.
Gilbert B. Scott died at his son A. D. Scott's home in Loving last Tuesday night. His remains were moved to Graham and buried at Oak Grove Cemetery at 4 o clock yesterday. He was 86 and survived by his wife, children, and many grandchildren. Funeral services were led by Rev. B. S. Crow of the Loving Methodist Church. Mrs. S. R. Crawford left Tuesday for the Southern Baptist Convention in Oklahoma City, with a stop in Bellevue on the return trip to visit Mrs. Sidney Webb.
The Graham Juniors defeated the Jacksboro Juniors 2 to 1 in an ninth inning finish to a highly tight game. Attendance noted it as one of the closest in Jacksboro with late runs by Jacksboro and Graham. Judge P A Martin returns from Henrietta where he was holding court Tuesday night.
A steady rain soaks wheat and oats across Young county improving prospects for a record yield. Oats may reach the heaviest harvest with one more shower. In the announcements A C Casey seeks reelection as County Commissioner of Precinct 4, praised for long residence and strong leadership. Edgar Davis and Mrs Modie Ardis wed in Eliasville with Rev. Wysor officiating. the couple is well regarded in the community.
The Graham Baptist Church observed Mothers Day with a special Sunday school program by the primary department. Ina May Price sang If You Love Your Mother Meet Her In the Skies and was recalled at the end. The church was decorated beautifully and each mother received a souvenir card, a white ribbon bow, and a white rose bud. The day drew many mothers and grandmothers and was the largest Sunday school day in the church’s history outside a year ago.
Local residents express disappointment as the Fort Worth Trade Excursion will not reach Graham due to track condition. The train will branch at Jacksboro for Seymour with boosters expected that night. Argo Davis of Eliasville visited on Saturday.
The revival at the Methodist Church features Rev. Hutcheson delivering soul stirring sermons from texts including The value of a Soul and Prepare to Meet Thy God. Messages stress personal responsibility, the power of the Gospel, and the certainty of meeting God. D G Vick, C C Graves joined the church. services run daily 10 am and 8 pm with additional conversions reported Wednesday.
The Graham Public Schools close Friday May 24 and invite patrons to visit the new school building all day to inspect student work and encourage further progress. Board and teachers plan a stronger year ahead while local citizens are urged to attend services and church events noting prayers and gospel selections by Mrs Hutcheson and choir under R E Lynch.
