Ball players clash over injunction in Jack County
Wilson and O'Brien, baseball players, joined Jacksboro citizens to play this season. The Graham team hired them away, then faced Weatherford in three games with the pair as battery. A writ of injunction from Jack County court barred playing beyond Jack County. During a second game a sheriff seized Wilson and O'Brien, bringing them to Jack County for contempt. They paid fines and costs totaling about thirty five dollars each rather than face jail. The Graham team lost the series and blame court actions, while debates about jurisdiction and contracts surface.

Young County Commissioners Adjourn For July Tax Hearings
The Young county commissioners finished their labors on the tax renditions last Thursday and adjourned to meet July 1 to hear objections to the raised renditions. Last year’s values were about 3.5 million dollars and this year around 6.5 million after the proposed raise. The court notes the rate could be lowered from 60 to 34 cents per hundred, as the state tax board will likely do likewise, and expects taxes not to rise much. The county’s wealth has grown, making this the most prosperous year in county history, with little public opposition anticipated on July 1.
