Enthusiastic Young county meeting on tax value rise

Last Monday a crowded Young county court house heard Judge Geo. H. McLaren and County Commissioners Horner Pratt Leberman Summers defend the tax value increases enacted under late Legislature. Speakers praised the changes while many argued for lower figures amid tense mood and remembered past devaluations.

Fire at Proffitt destroys drug store

A Proffitt fire last Friday night damaged the Cagle and Keeter drug store. The exact loss of logs is undetermined but thought to be substantial.

The District Conference At Ranger Texas

The M E church district conference at Ranger was well attended with about a hundred ministers and delegates. Weatherford college will be rehabilitated under new management led by two Vanderbilt professors and dormitories funded by a 15000 dollar local effort. Young county delegates J M Keen H H Windham and P A Martin were elected on the first ballot amid talks of a split to form a separate panhandle conference.

President Calvin and 0. P. Pyle Coming

W P Stinson secretary of the Union barbecue announces a July 19 event at the Confederate Reunion grounds. Pres Calvin is expected to attend and QO Pyle will confirm by the 10th. Families should bring a pan for meat and a coffee cup. Farmers celebrate prosperity and a large turnout is anticipated if the rivers are fordable.

Severe Windstorm Lashes Graham Friday Morning Brief

A severe windstorm struck Graham at 3 am on Tuesday from the northwest with strong wind and rain. Most residents sought storm cellars for safety. No serious damage occurred though a brick flue fell from W S Tidwell’s new residence and several signs and a lumber company gate were blown down or into the street.

The Leader declares it owns all late News subscriptions paid through January 1, 1906 and warns subscribers not to pay H. B. Adams of the Newsist. A letter to a Oklahoma lady is cited and readers are told to recall they should not owe Adams anything for the replaced News subscriptions.
